I understand he's a navy seal, so I have to think he's not totally incompetent; but I knew a number of people who were fairly successful in the military with no talent other than knowing what ass to stick their noses in--usually the ass of a similar ass kisser of a higher rank, just like Trump with his handlers.

He began in the National Guard but did time with the 101 Airborne division. After time in the sandbox, he returned to Army National Guard/Reserves when he was promoted to Major.

Well I stand corrected and am chagrined at being taken in by Trump's fake press. I don't know where I heard it but a quick search shows it as being a widespread lie. In any event, itshows we should check everything. I guess the reason I had little trouble believing it is because he reminds me of similar ass, G Gordon Liddy, who was a navy seal but also a class A asskisser (of one of the biggest asses of all, Richard Nixon), but then I don't know if Liddy was either. In any event, I do do know Hegseth got where he is by kissing the right asses and then thinking he is important.

The Trump administration's top official on counter-terrorism has resigned from his position, citing opposition to the war in Iran, and urged the president to "reverse course".

In a letter posted on Tuesday to his X account, National Counter-terrorism Center Director Joe Kent said that Iran posed "no imminent threat" to the US and claimed that the Trump administration "started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby".

Kent, 45, is a US special forces and CIA veteran whose wife, navy cryptologic technician Shannon Kent, was killed in a suicide bombing in Syria in 2019.
