Maybe some charitable person can explain to me what I am failing to grasp about this.

I asked whether someone was saying X. The response was that that person had not expressed an opinion about X and did not intend to express an opinion about X.

Okay.

I took that to mean that that person was not saying X.

I ask you "Are you saying that you are going to vote Libertarian in the upcoming election?" You answer "I am not saying how I will vote in the upcoming election." Doesn't that mean "No"? -- "No, I am not saying that I am going to vote Libertarian in the upcoming election"?

Sure, it also means "I am not saying that I am not going to vote Libertarian in the upcoming election."

Of course. It means "Maybe I will vote Libertarian in the upcoming election; maybe I won't; and I am not telling you which."

Okay, fine. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.

I no longer have any clue about who said what to whom. Everyone here has subbed in what someone supposedly said to another when neither were even talking to or aobut he other (as far as I can see).
