Nastiest campaign ads

Post by Scooter »

Since we'll be seeing a flurry of nasty campaign ads over the next few weeks, I thought I'd start a thread so we could share some of our picks for the sleaziest ones.

So I'll start.

Mark Grisanti is a NY state senator from the Buffalo area. He was one of three Republican senators who voted for the same-sex marriage bill last year, and as a result was targeted by the National Organization for Marriage who went so far as to put their money and muscle behind Charles Swarick, a Democrat (sort of) who entered the primary race for same seat. Grisanti, of course, has been the subject of a lot of negative campaigning, but this piece, apparently two sides of a mailer, was probably the worst:

Aside from the prurient messaging, there does not appear to be any substance to the charge that Grisanti was "paid" anything for his vote. Interestingly that lie has not garnered any attention at all in the reporting of this incident.

Not a single word from Grisanti's opponent in the primary, or any other prominent western NY Republican, denouncing this ad.

BTW, Grisanti won his primary with 60% of the vote, and Swarick was defeated handily by Michael Amodeo in the Democratic primary.

Guess the bigots saw their tactics blow up in their faces.

I wonder how much money they gave to the people who voted against the bill and how utterly silent they will be about those payments.
