And the part that is the most distressing about this latest revelation that Donald Trump is unfit to hold the highest office in the land by any standard any reasonable person would select is the indisputable fact that no matter what is shown, no matter what he says, no matter how incoherent or how irrational he becomes, roughly 50% of the people who will be going to the polls next month will STILL cast their votes for this monumental doofus.

Hell, at the next rally he could drop trou, take a crap right there on stage, and then wipe his flabby ass with a copy of the Constitution — and the mental defectives who are his staunchest supporters would stand up and cheer!

Orange, repellent, and tossed in the trash in November.

Your next Secretary of Defense.
'Germs are not a real thing': Fox News host says he hasn't washed hands in 10 years

Donald Trump’s favourite TV show, Fox & Friends, has a reputation for giving airtime to conspiracy theories that benefit the White House agenda. But host Pete Hegseth may now have managed to upset the famously germaphobic president – by revealing that he has not washed his hands in a decade.

The admission came as Hegseth discussed eating day-old pizza that had not been refrigerated. He did not see any issue with eating the pizza, he said, then added that he didn’t think he had washed his hands in 10 years.

“Really,” he said. “I don’t really wash my hands ever.”

Met with laughter, he explained: “I inoculate myself. Germs are not a real thing. I can’t see them, therefore they’re not real.”

On Twitter on Monday, Hegseth gave mixed messages. He claimed he had been joking and paraphrased the president in blaming the media for being so “self-righteous and angry”. He also said he supported drinking from hosepipes and riding bikes without a helmet.

I really think I need to take a job cooking at the Antarctic science station for the next few years so I can endure the stupidity by not hearing about most of it.

Or do they have dratted internet in Antarctica too?

Matt Gaetz for AG of USA.

I might have to do away with myself, I don't think I can stand this.

I think I traumatized the staff shrieking "OH MY FUCKING GOD" when I saw the Gaetz announcement. Apparently, stupid is a limitless commodity.

Better to toss the pumpkin into the woods to feed the deer and other woodland critters, so long as it's entirely non-toxic (i.e., you didn't pour bleach inside it to make it last longer).

It does appear we will be watching a 4 year long episode of The Apprentice with the most inept cast ever fielded.

At any other time, I would have said that it was a feint, so that whoever they really want for AG will then sail through confirmation.

But no, this crowd is precisely that level of wacko.

And RFK Jr as DHHS secretary. I had respect for the man when he was an environmental attorney fighting for restoration of (chiefly) the Hudson River. My team had some input to the measurement of PCBs in the sediment, and although I never met him, he used our data - and that of others who are also investigating that river - effectively.

I don't know what happened to him. He used to be driven by data but no longer.

My last year in graduate school when I was getting acceptances to law schools but on the fence about actually attending, I saw two speakers at my university who inspired me to take the leap: Ralph Nader and RFK, Jr. This was in academic year 1996-1997 and both were still well reputed crusaders for environment and consumer rights.

Now I hate both those motherfuckers - egomaniacs who have deeply harmed this nation by their words and actions. Fuck them.

I mean seriously, doesn’t anyone else occasionally consider what a different world we might be living in had Gore not lost to the hubris of Ralph Nader and SCOTUS?

Trump's nominations are an effort to literally wreck the government as part of his personal vendetta particularly against agencies that made him look bad: DOJ for his stolen documents and election subversion prosecutions (obvs); HHS for his bungling of COVID response; the intelligence community for his Ukraine extortion and Russian agents; Defense for the "stupid generals" who criticized him.

I see this whole thing like an episode of the old Adam West Batman series, in which Cesar Romero as The Joker gets himself elected mayor of Gotham City and appoints The Penguin, The Riddler, Catwoman, et al. to head its departments in order to eradicate Batman and loot the city.

Sue--I'm not sure; I don't think Trump is smart enough to figure out who will be a good or bad leader of a department (or even who might turn against him), but he is pretty good at seeing what appointments will piss the other side off. That's what I think he is doing, and we're going to suffer the consequences.

ETA: I do concede that Trump may be controlled by those who got him elected, but I don't see these picks as people who would do well in the beating the drum for them in the departments or make the changes they want. There are a lot better choices among the faithful, but most would be unknowns to much of the country.

All I know is that my stomach has been clenched since last Wednesday morning and it clenches harder by the day. The shitstorm to come will be epic, and I am unsure how I will manage my mental health as we journey through it. At this point I'm thinking I just focus on having a shiny new car smelling reliable vehicle and taking my dog to the beach in it every week. I think it's a choice between developing a serious drink habit or a serious hiking with dog habit and obvious the latter is for the better.
