Oh, how do the Brits put it...
Oh yes, "a load of old bollox"...
With all due respect,(So I'd say that racist, ignorant and poor is descriptive of the Brexit vote

Fucking maroons. Only racist idiots promoted Brexit.Gob wrote:Aspergers boy is projecting again.
Here's something he may or may not like to consider.
If you accuse a genuine racist of racism, will s/he;
a) Suddenly change their views and join http://www.standuptoracism.org.uk/ ?
b) Not give a toss?
If you accuse a genuinely nice person, one without a racist bone in their body, of racism, due to them having different viewpoint on the politics/bureaucracy/ finances of the EU, will s/he;
a) Suddenly change their views and join the "Remain" team?
b) Be insulted and become more belligerent and forceful in their EU opposition.

Wasn't rubato telling the UK to "get over it and get out now" not so long ago?rubato wrote:

yrs,

Sounds to me like she's saying that the same fears and concerns that have to date driven Trump's campaign — racism, sexism, xenophobia, and "fear of the others" all camouflaged as "restoring American values" — also led to most if not all of the "leave" votes in the EU referendum. So in that respect, rubato might actually be right (this time).This message, though we’ve heard it a thousand times, has taken time to penetrate the minds of commentators and analysts who now humbly acknowledge that they didn’t see “it” coming — neither Brexit nor Trump. It was easier to name the manifestations — xenophobia, racism, sexism, “fear of the other” — than it was to recognize the root causes, which, distilled, amount to a looming sense of lost identity.

Big RR wrote:Indeed he does; and another point is that people who live here and have little connection to the UK feel that they can lecture to people who are in the UK and the EU and tell them why they're wrong. I would imagine that persons in the UK would have far more knowledge about the EU and its pros and cons than someone living in the US.
The whole world is reeling after a milestone referendum in Britain to leave the European Union. And although leaders of the campaign to exit Europe are crowing over their victory, it seems many Britons may not even know what they had actually voted for.
Awakening to a stock market plunge and a precipitous decline in the value of the pound that Britain hasn't seen in more than 30 years, voters now face a series of economic shocks that analysts say will only worsen before they improve. The consequences of the leave vote will be felt worldwide, even here in the United States, and some British voters say they now regret casting a ballot in favor of Brexit.
[No, Brexit isn’t a good sign for Trump]
"Even though I voted to leave, this morning I woke up and I just — the reality did actually hit me," one woman told the news channel ITV News. "If I'd had the opportunity to vote again, it would be to stay."
[The critical fact Trump forgot in his viral speech on Brexit]
That confusion over what Brexit might mean for the country's economy appears to have been reflected across the United Kingdom on Thursday. Google reported sharp upticks in searches not only related to the ballot measure but also about basic questions concerning the implications of the vote. At about 1 a.m. Eastern time, about eight hours after the polls closed, Google reported that searches for "what happens if we leave the EU" had more than tripled.
And of course both groups are still considerably less ignorant than your own good self...Based onthe facts anecdotal interviews and social media posts dug up by anti-Brexit "reporters" I would say that Brexit voters are as wholly ignorant as Trump-GOP voters.

Okay...I was thinking at least a super-majority required to make these kind of changes.

I am shocked that the media weren't out beating the bushes for those voters who said they voted against but would have gladly voted the other way if they knew what they were voting for.Lord Jim wrote:And of course both groups are still considerably less ignorant than your own good self...Based onthe facts anecdotal interviews and social media posts dug up by anti-Brexit "reporters" I would say that Brexit voters are as wholly ignorant as Trump-GOP voters.
And that's definitely based on the facts...

Don't worry O-n-W, it's just Aspergers boy showing off his snobbery and ignorance. He's a fine example of a champaign democratoldr_n_wsr wrote:As LJ pointed out, what does "uneducated" mean?

Well that would most likely include your plumbers, carpenters, auto mechanics, appliance repair people, plane/jet mechanics, masonry workers..... the list goes on. They are people we depend on and hire to do jobs for us every day. You know, the "non-elite" who perform jobs that cannot be outsourced to china/mexico/wherever. Next time your pipes burst or your car breaks down or your washer is leaking water all over the floor try calling that college educated, so called "elite" to come and fix it.
These people are just trying to protect their own and their jobs and not have them under cut, under bid and replaced by "outsiders", aka immigrants.
And they would rather have their own government set the quotas for immigration and economic movement in and out of the country rather than have some bureaucracy (the EU) in some other country (Belgium) dictate how many they must let in and what is best for them.
People (the "little" people) are fed up with the non-responsiveness of their government and when given the chance to vote on something they see as a way to be heard, they go for it. Sure, not everyone is up on the in-depth analysis of either side of the choices, but even many of "the elite" are not up on the details. They just won't admit it and just parrot what other elites say (or whom they think are part of the elite crowd).
And then they go and break down the demographics of who voted which way and come up with the label "un-educated" (or racist or bigotted or xenophobic, etc) to make themselves feel smarter, better, superior. If they were just educated more they would see the "elite" point of view.
