I have to say, all joking aside, this a very sad day for me...

I have been a hardcore Republican since I was 13 years old standing out in front of our polling place wearing a " Nixon" sash passing out "President Nixon Now. More Than Ever." buttons... ( (A play on the "Nixon Now!" theme that Mr. Nixon used in 1968...)

It's very depressing to see the Presumptive nominee of "my party" be a person who thinks it makes perfect sense to accuse his erstwhile opponent's father essentially of being the "second gunman on the Grassy Knoll" ...

That the nominee of a major political party, (let alone the nominee of my party) is that crackers is utterly beyond the pale...And embarrassing to me, not just a Republican, but as an American...

I keep hoping that I'm going to wake up one morning and discover that this whole "Trump thing" has been a dystopian alternate universe sci-fi nightmare...

I'm going to wake up, and it's going to be last August, and Trump has gone down in flames as a joke with less than 4% in the polls, and Jeb Bush is headed for the nomination with John Kasich as his likely running mate...

The one thing that makes me able to rationalize supporting Hillary is the fact that she seems stronger on national security then our present President Thumb-up-the-butt...

We don't need four more years of trying to figure out how to spend 20 years bringing down the ISIS Caliphate...

That crap (and the frustration it engenders) has a lot to do with why The Idiot Trump is so popular...

A President who belittles and sneers at legitimate concerns Americans have about Islamic Terrorism (hell, he can't even bring himself to use the phrase) invites an unprincipled demagogue like Trump to offer idiotic xenophobic solutions like "ban all Muslims"...

I'm certainly not saying that Barack Obama is solely responsible for the Rise of Trump, (there are a whole lot societal sicknesses that have played a role in that) but his weak, deer-in-the-headlights style of leadership has undoubtedly been a contributing factor...

I don't know about that...

The whole Never Trump movement was coalesced around the idea of getting to a contested convention...

And that got tossed into a cocked hat when Trump went six-for-six last week with 50% plus of the vote in every state...

And then he followed that up with 53% in Indiana...

The "Never Trump" forces in the GOP at the moment are dispirited and in disarray...

Afterall, the final nail into the coffin was just hammered in last night; a bit of shell shock is understandable...

It's only now just sinking in that There Is No Way To Stop Donald Trump From Being The Republican Nominee...

(I'm still having problems coming to grips with that...I could probably use a Grief Counselor... )

So it's going to take a few days to sort this out...

There may very well be a serious effort to field a "Real Republican" third candidate...

Others in Never Trump will focus on the down ballot races, and just ignore the Presidential contest, looking to trying to re-capture the White House in 2020....

And no doubt some will peel off and become as George Will correctly characterized them, "Quislings and collaborationists"...(I'm lookin' at you Jon Hunstman...)

Right now we're a very dispirited lot; give us a few days to re-group....

Republican turnout has been up, but so has Democratic turnout...

The Trump-thing likes to take credit for the increase in GOP primary voter participation, but when you drill down on the numbers, there's every reason to believe that at least as many independents have come into the GOP primaries to vote against Trump as to vote for him...

At least until the last couple of weeks...
