Where does the money go
Re: Where does the money go
Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuse us!
When we were saving the UK's ass from the Nazis, we didn't think to write up a loan agreement.
We thought that we were making a deal with a friend.
More the fool us.

Re: Where does the money go
You thought you were making a financial deal when you came into WWII?
“Ohh, we’ll intervene in this war, but you must pay us back, ok?”
Not only does that show your country is a very sordid light, it diminishes the heroics of your countrymen and women.
You just get more and more stupid by the minute.

Re: Where does the money go
Oh, please.
Of course we didn't think we were making a "financial deal" when we came to the aid of our friends.
We came to the aid of our friends. That's what friends do.
Friends also acknowledge debts of gratitude. That's what friends do.

No, not gonna do it; wouldn't be prudent....Jim, please take Andrew off ignore, he's desperate for attention...
I'm a little too old for merry-go-rounds...
However I do reserve the right (as I did the last time I had him on ignore) to comment on anything he says that is quoted by anyone else...
I haven't done it lately, because frankly, he hardly ever gets quoted by anyone any more...
Funny thing that....

Re: Where does the money go
A friend comes to me and says "Andrew, I need $5000, or they're going to take away my possessions that I have in their storage."
I don't have $5000 in my petty-cash drawer, but I can work things to make $5000 available. I do that, and I give my friend the $5000.
Thereafter, I become unable to pay my bills. And my friend comes into $50,000.
I have no claim to any of my friend's $50,000. My gift to her of $5000 was exactly that -- a gift.
But is it wrong of me to think that my friend should repay the $5000? Not as the payment of something due on some contract, but on the basis of friendship: I helped you when you were in need; now that I am in need, you should help me.
That is the situation between the US and the UK. The US came to the UK's aid as a friend. Now that the US is in need of help -- up to its eyeballs in debt, partly (though only a little bit partly) because of the expenses involved in contributing to the UK's national defense -- does not friendship demand that the UK come to the US's aid as a friend?

As we have all seen, Jim responds to my postings when he feels like doing so.
And he declines to respond to my postings when he feels like doing so.
What his reasons are for responding to some of my postings and not others -- people will have to judge for themselves.

Your over simplification of the situation is gobsmackingly inane.Andrew D wrote:

The US spends how much defending the UK? You think the UK should bail out the US? What planet are you on?
If the US asks the UK for financial aid, lets see what the UK's response is shall we? (When we've finished laughing.)
We in America have learned bitter lessons from two World Wars: It is better to be here ready to protect the peace than to take blind shelter across the sea, rushing to respond only after freedom is lost. We've learned that isolationism never was and never will be an acceptable response to tyrannical governments with an expansionist intent.
But we try always to be prepared for peace; prepared to deter aggression; prepared to negotiate the reduction of arms; and, yes, prepared to reach out again in the spirit of reconciliation. In truth, there is no reconciliation we would welcome more than a reconciliation with the Soviet Union, so, together, we can lessen the risks of war, now and forever.
It's fitting to remember here the great losses also suffered by the Russian people during World War II: 20 million perished, a terrible price that testifies to all the world the necessity of ending war. I tell you from my heart that we in the United States do not want war. We want to wipe from the face of the Earth the terrible weapons that man now has in his hands. And I tell you, we are ready to seize that beachhead. We look for some sign from the Soviet Union that they are willing to move forward, that they share our desire and love for peace, and that they will give up the ways of conquest. There must be a changing there that will allow us to turn our hope into action.

Tell me, who was that brilliant visionary, who spoke such wise and insightful words?

" Oh, you English are *so* superior, aren't you? Well, would you like to know what you'd be without us, the good ol' U.S. of A. to protect you? I'll tell you. The smallest fucking province in the Russian Empire, that's what! So don't call me stupid, lady. Just thank me."

Lol.
And what does Her Majesty's Land get paid for stopping the spread of that evil (and others) while we waited on the sidelines? The interest has got to amount to a small continent land value by now.

Re: Where does the money go
We should sue the UK for for war costs for the Revolutionary war and the War of 1812. War costs and pain and suffering.
While we are at it we should sue China and get all the aid we sent them back plus interest. Well and we could sue them for our obesity epidemic, I mean weren't we all as children coerced into cleaning our plates due to the existence of starving Chinese children?

The tune of "Deutschland Uber Alles" is also the tune of "Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken" -- a hymn commonly sung at services commemorating the Battle of Britain.

The US spends $530 Billion per year defending the "Pax Americana" which has protected all the little countries of Europe since the end of WWII, the longest period of relative peace in history. And enabled you to achieve the highest standard of living in all of your histories.
When you're all grown up and able to lead on your own perhaps you will be able, as France did multiple times recently, to take the lead in your own protection. But until you pull on your 'big-boy' pants and start to act like an adult who is responsible for your own selves we will protect you. You don't have to be grateful and you don't have to even acknowledge the costs we have born; gratitude is the act of a moral adult and if you were capable of it then you would not need so much protection.
You don't need to bail us out of anything. Your economy is in the toilet; the longest recession in UK history:

If we had a Republican government since 2009 we'd be just as fucked as you are.
