Chicago alone would probably need several times the "well-trained professional force" of the nation of Israel.Scooter wrote:There are no doubt some things that can be learned from Israel that would facilitate the screening process, but peak traffic in 2008 was only 11.5 million passengers. And yet Atlanta had 90 million, OHare 69 million, Heathrow 67 million, Tokyo 67 million, Charles De Gaulle 61 million...

And how large a "well-trained professional force" would the U.S. need in light of Scooter's observation:
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Numbers alone don't tell the story.
90% of U.S. domestic fliers could be passed through security with barely a second glance if we were focusing on the people and behaviors that constitute a viable threat. Regular business travelers can be pre-screened and given special credentials.
The air traffic at Ben Gurion is much more potentially antagonistic.

I don't understand why they haven't done that already. At the very least for the pilots and crews; I heard going through these new security procedures daily is getting very stressful on them.

I thought they were changing in how they were screening the flight crews?loCAtek wrote:I don't understand why they haven't done that already. At the very least for the pilots and crews; I heard going through these new security procedures daily is getting very stressful on them.
(that is they didn't have to go through the "whole shebang" every time)
Re: We could learn a lot from Israel
There have been terrorist attacks on surface transit in (at least) London, Madrid, and Tokyo. How long will it be until we have to submit to genital groping in order to ride a train or a subway or a bus?
There have been terrorist attacks in restaurants and shopping malls and all sorts of places. How long will it be until we simply have to submit to being searched anywhere, any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all?
That's what the people behind all this pseudo-security actually want.

Reason is valuable only when it performs against the wordless physical background of the universe.
