I was in Chicago the summer of '68 as one of those hippy college students working on voter registration drives. But I went back to Michigan before the convention. One thing to note. The police reaction was VERY controlled and professional. Most violent confrontations involved the 'pigs' using batons or riot wands or night sticks. One might call them various forms of clubs. But the cops used them with great skill--there were NO broken bones! In this kind of action a broken collar bone is very easy. The cops used those clubs very skillfully and with precision.
