What does that have to do with homosex military personnel? Of the deserters and mutineers, the majority seem to be hetro, I've not heard of a single refusal to fight by grounds of sexuality. Of anyone that would be from females ...and they are also usually hetro fraggers.

This is really more of Gob’s area than mine, but I have never feared taking a chance in the cyber world. Although I can’t be sure I will go out on a limb and say that the possible of one committing a fragging has nothing to do with race, sexual orientation or gender. I think the only requirements would be a sense isolation and resentment that grows into hatred.

And also the larger the pool of potential offenders the more like it would be for an event to happen.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

You know what's kind of funny....

Not funny "Ha Ha" but funny in a "well, that's the military for you" sort of way...

Apparently there have been thousands of good, loyal, brave soldiers that have been forced out under DADT...

But THE ONE GUY they SHOULD have nailed....

The Traitor Bradley Manning....who was quite open about his gay sexuality, even discussed it at length on his Face Book page....Apparently he was even considering a sex change operation....(he was also quite open about his disaffection from the military, and was even demoted for striking another soldier)

This guy....Who had D-I-S-G-R-U-N-T-L-E-D written all over him in big neon letters....

He somehow not only never got discharged, he never even had his security clearance yanked.

That will be me tonight (party) and tomorrow (hangover). although I don't usually get hangovers ;)
Best way to avoid hangovers (other than to start drinking again) is to drink lots and lots of water before you go to bed. Hangovers are caused mostly by dehydration.

Well, I've been drinking lots and lots of water since I got up....

Another thing I find is good for a hangover is a shot of Nyquil....

THat's because it has alcohol in it. Sports drinks are a little better than water for hangovers.

That was another one of those things about DADT. If they thought you were attempting to use coming out as a way of evading service (whether they believed you were gay or not), they would find ways to put off discharging you. Not sure if that was the case here, but I have heard about it happening enough times anecdotally to wonder if the same thing applied to Manning.

I think you're right about that...

I remember in College I used to suck down a lot of Gatorade after a night of heavy partying and that really helped....

Maybe I'll pick some up...

Gatorade helped me one morning when I was so hungover I couldn't keep down water.

It seems to me, that one reform they could implement in the military at once, would be to require that anyone who has committed an act sufficiently egregious to merit a demotion in rank, not be assigned duties that involve access to classified material.

While obviously not every person who gets demoted will betray their country, this just seems like simple prudence to me. The likelihood of someone who has been demoted being bitter about it, and carrying resentments over it seems quite high to me.

It amazes me that things were so lax that this never occurred to anyone.

Well, I heard he is facing forty years now. However, I personally feel that execution by firing squad would be a more appropriate punishment for a traitor.

Perhaps I missed it on the charge sheet, so could you please point out where he was charged with treason.

When I used to suck down liquor in prodigious quantities, I always found that I was a lot better off if I took steps to prevent a hangover rather than waiting until I already had one. (By "each drink," I mean each shot (1-1/2 ounces) 80-proof liquor or the equivalent.) Four suggestions:

(1) Tofu: the miracle anti-hangover food.

At least an hour before you start drinking alcohol, eat a big portion of tofu, the softer the better. Soft tofu is the best anti-hangover food I've ever found. It's easily digestible, which is important, because once you start drinking alcohol, your liver starts digesting the alcohol preferentially, so the more tofu that has already been digested, the better. (The softer the tofu, the more easily digestible it is because of the lower fiber content.)

It packs a protein punch. It runs about 11 grams of protein per 100 calories. That's a very good thing, because the amino acids (especially cysteine, about which more below) help your body fight alcohol and acetaldehyde toxicity. (Your body will absorb the cysteine more slowy and constantly from the tofu than from the NAC (below), so you get the best of both worlds: a steady stream of cysteine coming from the tofu and concentrated blasts to go with each drink.) It is low-calorie -- about 100 calories per quarter pound -- which is good, because you can eat a lot of it. (A typical tofu entree -- not vegetables with a little tofu, but something that is all or mostly tofu such as Ma Po Tofu or braised tofu -- will get you about a half pound; that's almost half your daily protein requirement in only 200 calories.) It is low-fat, about 1/3 the fat content (by weight) of beef.

Most of all, it has abundant cysteine. That's crucial, because alcohol gets metabolized first into acetaldehyde, which is much more toxic than alcohol. Acetaldehyde is the number one cause of morning-after misery. Cysteine is an effective antidote to acetaldehyde toxicity.

(2) Megadose vitamin B1.

After your tofu, take 100 mg of vitamin B1. (That's a megadose -- about 67 times the daily minimum.)

(3) NAC and vitamin C.

Before you start drinking alcohol, take 200 mg of NAC (N-acetylcysteine) and 600 mg of vitamin C. With each drink, take another 200 mg of NAC and another 600 mg of vitamin C. After you're done drinking, take another 200 mg of NAC and another 600 mg of vitamin C. NAC helps your body produce glutathione, a detoxifying anti-oxidant, which combats the effects of alcohol and acetaldehyde. It is important to take three times as much vitamin C as NAC.

(4) Water (or a sports drink with electrolytes, but most sports drinks are higher in sodium than potassium -- Gatorade, for example, has five times as much of the DV of sodium as of potassium -- so consider taking some potassium supplement).

Drink lots of it while you're drinking alcohol -- at least eight ounces of water with each drink, preferably more. (It's good for washing down the NAC and vitamin C anyway.) And keep drinking water after you're done drinking alcohol. Every time you get up to hit the head, have another glass of water.

Believe me, this really works. I have (far too many times) been completely wasted -- falling down, passing out in strangers' doorways, memory-loss wasted -- and felt just fine in the morning.
Reason is valuable only when it performs against the wordless physical background of the universe.
