I don't see any of that insight from the right wing groups I am familiar with, who do not appear to look beyond their blinkered focus to see how taking on some "leftie" cases could serve to advance their own agendas.
The closest I can see are the libertarians, who would support the rights of people to grow, possess or ingest drugs as zealously as they would for more traditional right wing concerns. I do think there are some on both sides of the aisle who will always support the rights of the individual against the government. Face it, there are many on the left who want to support government action to exempt "hate speech" from free speech; as well intentioned as that may (or may not) be, I don't see it as defensible (and I dout many of them would be lining up to defend the rights of the Nazis to march).

Libertarian ideology is also opposed to any barriers to immigration or travel across national borders for people who are not criminals.

The First Amendment is a mixed bag for both left and right, agreed. I see a difference, however, between wanting to restrict speech that can foreseeably expose those it targets to violence and other tangible harms, like hate speech, and trying to privilege speech or beliefs one agrees with, at the expense of the rights of others, like permitting religious beliefs to become a license to selectively target certain groups for discrimination. And there is a difference between taking differing approaches to safeguarding the rights of a given amendment, and demonstrating indifference to the rights enshrined in every amendment except those that can advance one's own interests.

I don't know the libertarian policies well, but my understanding is that they would prefer the government to stay out of the business of all people (regardless of their politics0 in the hopes that the best (which I am sure they think is them) will rise to the top. they don't want to "permit religious beliefs to become a license to selectively target certain groups for discrimination", they just want the government to stay out of business or personal behavior altogether--just as a baker can refuse to bake a gay themed wedding cake, he could refuse to bake a cake in the shape of a cross, swastika, or anything else. They are not trying to support any political or religious agenda.

In light of this US Attorney debacle, In Justice Today released a piece on the Brady violations issue that some of you might find interesting:

I see the Democrat party slowly, but steadily moving to the left, it is getting to the point that moderates no longer belong in the party. My wife and I have talked about leaving the party. We are the last in my family to still be democrats; the only thing that prevents us from changing our party is that we just don't feel like Republicans. But the Democrat Party is becoming more and more communist and the Republican Party is becoming more and more like the Democrat Party used to be.

A while back, when a group of leftist activist attacked a group of mostly elderly free speech supporters there was only one well known Democrat that blamed the leftist. And when a well known female Democrat (don't remember the name ) called the border wall immoral no Democrat saw anything wrong with that. Evidently Democrats feel that the US has no right to control its borders.

There was a time when Democrat meant one who believed in the rule of the people now the meaning is changing to the rule of the wealthy liberal elite.

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

The Republicans have always (at least since the end of Reconstruction) believed in rule by elites. That is what elections are for--to identify who the 'wisdom of the crowd' believes to be the best person, among a group of volunteers, to do the political job. IMNSHO, the responsibility of POTUS is so difficult and grave, that volunteering for the job is proof that their judgement is not up to doing it.

In what other responsibility or tasks in your life, Liberty, do you prefer to use a non-elite, one who is not the best person you can find for the job?

Really? I see the opposite: the Democrat Party is becoming more center right and the Republicans are drifting to where the KKK used to be. Not there yet; but give it time . . .

(And yeah, Andy, the Democrats are now Eisenhower Republicans.)
