Obama speaks
Re: Obama speaks
OK, failing a consensus, he has to sell his idea to the people, and with a minimal amount of persuasion people are usually willing to support it. Ignoring it, or saying "because I think it's best" rarely works; look at LBJ and Vietnam.
Re: Obama speaks
Vietnam is another over used analogy.
Vietnam was started under Kennedy, escalated by McNamara and Westmoreland. Johnson just stayed up nights thinking about it.
Now if you want to ask Johnson about an exit strategy how about one for the "Great Society"?
Teddy said it best when he mentioned the big stick...

Guess I got this one kinda crossing 2 threads, oil well...

Sometimes it seems as though one has to cross the line just to figger out where it is
Re: Obama speaks
Overused? Granted LBJ didn't start it, but he escalated again and again and refused to explain to the American people (of even Congress) why we were there or what our objectives were. He did exactly the opposite with his Great Society programs which is why Congress supported the initiatives and enacted supporting/enabling legislation.
As for Teddy, if you use that big stick, make sure you know why you are suing it and what you are using it for.

Go back and read the Pentagon Papers exposed by one of the greatest and most courageous patriots of the last half-century.
Most of the "Great Society" programs have been successful and cost far less than the Nixonian-Reagan-Bush.I-Bush.II Debt explosions. (all of whom borrowed and spent like drunken sailors on payday)
