Mid sixties, hairstyles for men were changing, except for the those of the hardcore thoughtless bullies of course.

Mitty is just displaying the brutally effective tactics of the truly slavish conformist. An authentic conservative in all meanings of the term.

The Post article also describes another episode in which Mr. Romney was accused of mistreating a mostly blind teacher at the Cranbrook School.

In that episode, students recalled that Mr. Romney purposely guided the blind teacher, known affectionately as “the Bat,” into a closed door.

“Romney giggled hysterically as the teacher shrugged it off as another of life’s indignities,” The Post wrote.

I think Long Run is right - there are probably a whole collection of stories like this that are going to get leaked out one by one over the course of the campaign, to keep up the "Romney is a nasty guy" narrative continuously.

It'll be nice if they can come up with some that are less than four decades old....

I'm sure they will be saving several from his days as a corporate raider until the last few weeks of the campaign.

He'd be a shit president but I really hope this story isn't true.

If it is, he's just a mean-fuck and it's depressing that someone this loathsome could make it this far. Nixon, ok ANOTHER person this loathsome. But allowances have to be made for the party of racism and homophobia.

I don't know rubato, I think often the loathsome people come out ahead, while nice guys finish last. One need only loook at Richard Daly and the tactics his police practiced (with his enthusiastic support) during the 1968 democratic convention to find a guy as loathsome as Nixon who had his ass kissed by nearly emocrat of national prominence (including the nominee Humphrey); even George Wallace held a position of prominence among the dems for years. People seems to flock to the jerks, as those who applaud the actions of Rush or Jim Carville prove.

Is it really fair to equate Jim Carville with Rush Limbaugh?

I agree. Carville is not in Rush's universe of nastiness not by many orders of magnitude. And George Wallace, before he was badly beaten in a state primary by an opponent who "out-niggered" him was remarkably non-racist and a black attorney who appeared before him in court said he was the first white judge who ever called him "Mister" and treated him with respect. Wallace, after he was shot, had an authentic change of heart, he publicly apologized for his cynical use of racism to get elected and made amends. Long before he died he was warmly embraced by the black community in his state.

Wallace before and Wallace after was a mensch.

When Clinton was being accused of rape/seduction I saw Carville on the Today show attacking his accuser by saying that "this is the sort of woman that runs around trailer parks looking for anyone who has $10". That seems at least as mean as Rush. Maybe he's not genuinely mean, but his rhetoric is incredibly hateful.

The "Judas Iscariot" line when Richardson endorsed Obama was also way over the top.
