He's Wayne Swan = smarmy bugger, Treasurer, and newly appointed deputy PM.
One of the hatchet mob who did a number on ex-PM KRudd.

Labour decisions, labour policies etc used to be nutted out by a little 'gang of four' - Kevin Rudd, his Deputy Julia Gillard, Wayne Swan and Lindsay Tanner.
All the excuses they used to axe Kevin - all the bad mistakes and labour 'losing its way' - they were all a part of.
So now they've made Kevin the scapegoat for the party, distanced themselves from their own piles of shit, and counted on everyone celebrating 'girl power' to get Julia through the election which will be held somewhere in the next 2-3 months while we're all still thinking she's just fairy bread with extra sprinkles.

I didn't like Kevin, but this was just cut throat and dirty party gameplaying - it was politics even more dirty than usual. I would trust Julia about as far as I would trust a snake.
I'm sure she will win the election though, because the only 'competition' is Tony Abbott.
She is clever, manipulative, articulate (if you can ignore the nasal whine) and goes for the jugular.
Tony Abbott is .... foot in mouth and golly gee what a bumbler.

What a sad, sad line up for Australian politics. :(

This will be the first Aus election I am able to vote in! I become an Australian on the 9 th July. (Read all about it on our website next month. :) )

Fo anyone who may be wondering what "fairy bread with sprinkles" are.

Congrats on becoming an Australian!! :) (I don't get your website - hope you had lots of photos to commorate the day)

And I guess congratulations and also commiserations on having to vote in this debacle of an election!!
It's my oldest son's first chance to vote as well. And if they hold the election in September my middle son will also get to vote (but I think he'll miss by amonth 'cos they seem to be talking about an August election).
It seems a very important 'rite of passage' - I'd forgotten how very 'special' it felt until I heard my oldest son talking about it. He's proud to be able to vote and be finally involved in the process, but disappointed at the current choices he has. He's more publicly vocal about it than me though - he has that earnest confidence and know-all brashness of youth that I remember so well and long, long lost!

PS: edit to add: thanks for explaining the fairy bread reference - I didn't know that was just an Aussie thing. Loved the site you found. :)

Fairy Bread is a dish that delights children, and those with a young heart who remember being a child.

You should make it for your next kid's birthday party, Jim.

:D
Bah!

I was dirty politics Alice, but I doubt it was dirtier than usual.

I may only have close connections with local Labor, but the series Rats in the Ranks was spot on.
I would trust Julia about as far as I would trust a snake.
Ditto.

She may pull it off, but I am sure the Libs can get an effective campaign going to stop her.

Are we really sure Oz is ready to actually vote in a woman PM, and a ranga at that?

The following 8 months are going to be interesting times I am sure.

(The ACT may enter into the mix sometime late October. Remember, you heard it hear first on Plan B.)
Bah!
