I'm his base and I don't give a goddamn. I'm pretty sure his golfing with Tiger was about, well, golf, and not about serial philandering.

Re: Something To Ponder
Successful president Andrew? Either you have low expectations or expected something different than I did when I voted for him 4 years ago. Yes, he's had problems with Congress and a lot of bad luck, but I don't see a lot of successes there. More successful than W clearly, but then that's a pretty low bar.
Re: Something To Ponder
Obama ended the Republicans' totally immoral war in Iraq -- a war that the Republicans wanted to go on forever.
Obama is ending the Republicans' utterly incompetent war in Afghanistan -- another war that the Republicans wanted to go on forever.
Obama ended the military's viciously stupid discrimination against gay people.
On the economy:
--> Obama finally got rid of Bush's idiotic tax cuts for the already wealthy.
--> Under Obama, the budget deficit in dollars has shrunk by 40.2%, from $1,412.7 billion to $845 billion.
--> Under Obama the budget deficit as a percentage of our GDP has shrunk by 47.5%, from 10.1% to 5.3%.
--> In the last month of Bush's so-called presidency, the economy -- thanks to the Republicans' intellectually puny and morally filthy economic policies -- lost 818,000 jobs. In December of 2012, the economy gained 155,000 jobs, and that was not the best month of the Obama presidency. In every single month for more than the past two years, the economy gained jobs.
--> In every single quarter for more than the past three years, our GDP has grown.
--> Home prices are 7.7% higher now than when Obama took office.
--> Foreclosures are down 20.5%.
--> The S&P 500 is up by 58.0%.
--> Manufacturing is up 12.2%.
Obviousy, everything is not rosy. After the Great Republican Recession, how could it be?
Unemployment is still too high at 7.8%. But it surged to 10.0% under the last of the Bush budgets. The steep rise in the national debt as a percentage of our GDP was necessitated by the Great Republican Recession.
Of course, we know why our rebound has not been faster, why the unemployment rate is not far lower, and why the national debt is not a much smaller fraction of our GDP: Congressional Republicans have consistently stymied and sabotaged attempts at economic recovery.
The American people tried this past November to get the Republicans out of the way. The American people voted to reelect a Democratic President, to put the Senate in the hands of the Democrats, and to put the House of Representatives in the hands of the Democrats.
Lamentably, the Republicans stole the House and have continued their relentless obstruction in the Senate.
Do we really want to speed up our recovery, lower our unemployment rate, and bring down the national debt? Do we really want to stop the huge Republican transfer of wealth away from ordinary working people and into the hands of the already wealthy? Do we really want to stop the Republicans' assiduous attempts to gut the social safety net?
In short, do we really want to stop the Republicans from doing what congressional Republicans exist to do -- licking clean the anus of wealth -- and put our Republic back on the track of fiscal, social, and military sanity?
In this case, the proof of the pudding is in the voting. We all know what we need to do in 2014: Elect Democrats to a majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Whether we will, collectively, do what is right remains to be seen.

I'd call a resounding win in the last election something like confidence.

You mean the current Secretary of State. I'm only thankful he isn't my wholly uninterested in his constituency Senator any longer and pray he retires after this stint. Hopefully, it will take care of his need to be "imperial."

Yes, we are tenuously climbing out of the recession, and job growth is one of the indicators--but I'd bet this would happen whoever was president (unless a real idiot was in office)

The economy aside, we stilll are hoding political prisoners taken in the last decade with no hope of a trial. Gitmo is open and running to keep at least some of these out of the reach of the federal courts. The rule of law is being openly flouted, and Obama, despite his promises, has done little to reverse it, or the rest of the war on civil rights in the name of security (not to mention his escalation of the other war on civil rights in the name of drugs. He helped broker a healthcare law into effect that I think is doomed to failure because of a number of shortcomings (I sincerely help I am wrong here, but I fear this may set back the course of national healthcare), and it's interestting to note that he could not even bring his own party into line to pass a better law when they had a majority in both houses. And the latter is my biggest complaint with obama--yes the republicans are difficult to deal with, but he seems incapable of working with anyone, republican or democrat, if they stand up to him. A lot more could be accomplished if he dropped the ego BS and realized he is there to serve, not rule. He's not the worst presiddent I have ever seen, but he's certainly not a good one IMHO.
