At least his cousin got it right.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17487873
Mitt Romney, the front runner in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination for the White House, is a devout Mormon, but his cousin, Park Romney, also in the past a committed member of the church, now denounces it as a cult.

"I became convinced that it's a fraud," Park Romney told the BBC, explaining his reason for leaving the Mormon fold.

The two visions of Mormonism the Romney cousins present could not be more starkly opposed.

Park Romney, 56, is a former Mormon high priest, who turned against the church.

On the stump Mitt Romney, 65, has avoided mentioning Mormonism, instead talking generally about his faith, but he has been an active lifelong member of the church.

He was a Mormon missionary to France in the 1960s, studied at the almost-exclusively Mormon Brigham Young university and rose to become first bishop, then "Stake President" (diocesan leader) in his home state of Massachusetts.

He led Sunday services, ran Bible classes for children and looked after a 4,000-strong congregation in Boston for five years in the 1980s.

Like all Mormons, he is expected to give 10% of his annual income - no-one knows how much he is worth, but it is estimated at anywhere from $150 million to $1 billion - to the Church and not drink tea, coffee or alcohol.

Committed Mormons wear special under-garments, and Romney is believed to follow this tenet of his faith too.

Park Romney's criticisms of the church are fundamental.

Along with other ex-Mormons, he questions founder Joseph Smith's prophecies - for example Smith's translation of an Egyptian scroll, part of the Mormon book of Abraham, which Egyptologists say is a fraud.

"There's compelling evidence that the Mormon Church leaders knowingly and wilfully misrepresent the historical truth of their origins and of the Church for the purpose of deceiving their members into a state of mind that renders them exploitable," says Park.

Such accusations are rarely heard in the US, a nation founded on the principle of freedom of religion.

LDS is a cult, as I have described in detail on several occasions.

Mitt will lose some Fundie votes because of his faith, but he will get lock-step support from Mormons. My guess is that those two will cancel each other out.

It is difficult to have people take you seriously about LDS when you describe their beliefs because they are so preposterous.

I'm sure the Romans said the same thing about the Christians.

Right, "my invisible sky-god is rational and makes sense while your invisible sky god sounds crazy and you're a cult."

Pull the other one.

The LDS don't seem to have your cults morality issues though. No systematic child rape, infant stealing .. &c.

Romney receives another ringing endorsement:
Rubio, 40, a West Miami Republican, had been neutral in the GOP race. But he endorsed Romney Wednesday evening — a week after his political mentor, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — saying a floor fight over the nomination at the Republican convention in Tampa in August would be "a recipe to deliver four more years to Barack Obama."

But he sounded less than enthused about Romney on Thursday. In an interview with The Daily Caller, a political website, he was quoted saying: "There are a lot of other people out there that some of us wish had run for president — but they didn't. I think Mitt Romney would be a fine president, and he'd be way better than the guy who's there right now."
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/201 ... itt-romney

Wow, that's quite a rallying cry isn't it?

That endorsement isn't tepid, it's icy...As Joe Scarborough accurately portrayed it this morning, it's like the teenage girl who agrees to go with you to the prom because the 17 guys she would rather have gone with didn't ask....

Even weaker than Jeb's endorsing him in a released statement; he couldn't even be bothered to make a public appearance...

There's a story today that Paul Ryan is getting ready to endorse Mitt....

I guess we can expect something like:

"Well, yeah I guess so...I mean sure, why not, nobody else can win it now, so you can count me for Romney"

I suspect Romney will be receiving a slew of such deeply felt endorsements in the coming days and weeks...

Thank God we don't have to count on our nominee to be the one to get the GOP base to turn out....

Of course, his opponent is occupying himself with issues like this that are so clearly at top of mind for most Americans:
Rick Santorum is protecting the American culture, one bowling ball at a time. During a campaign appearance in Wisconsin Wednesday, he reportedly stopped a young man from picking up a pink bowling ball.

"Friends don't let friends use pink balls," Santorum quipped as the press looked on. The comments were tweeted by Reuters' Sam Youngman.

"You're not gonna use the pink ball," Santorum said to the boy first. "We're not gonna let you do that." Although, he added a caveat: "Not on camera."

What these kinds of "endorsements" are conveying amounts to is this:

"I'm not crazy about Mitt Romney. And I have supporters who I know are even less crazy about him. But I'm a leader in the party, and I can see that he's going to win the nomination, and the continued fight for the nomination is damaging the party, so I have to do what I can to try to bring that fight to an end; not for Romney's sake, but for the party's.

But at the same time, I want to telegraph to those of my supporters who don't like Romney, that I ain't enthusiastic about endorsing him so they won't hold it against me in the future."

Lovely....

And how many Republicans will remember that abject lack of character four years from now, do you think? Or will they be willing to forgive it just because whoever it is happens to be electable?

No current or even historical candidate could continue to look good over these many months with the daily body cavity search that the MSM has subjected these guys to. Mr. Biden makes more ridiculous, false, and absurd statements in a good week than all of these guys combined have made since the first of the year, and yet it never shows up in the news.

But fortunately, the task at hand is not all that great or daunting. The candidate and the Republican party will only have convince the voting public that Romney is better than Barry.

Vice President Biden isn't running for President. President Obama's gaffes did show up all over the place, you're just choosing not to remember them so you can pretend the big bad media is oppressing your candidates.
