The GOP have created this whole genre by insisting that lying is just as good as telling the truth. They lied about Benghazi, they lied about the importance of the email servers, they lied about whitewater, they have continually lied about the ACA (Obamacare, formerly Romneycare), they have lied about global warming for 16 years, they lie about the effects of tax cuts (no matter how often the experiment fails), they lied about the dangers of immigrants (giving Trump his favorite talking point), and what they wound up with is a GOP electorate who no longer know that there is difference and that the difference matters when you are creating policies and expect them to have certain outcomes. They have pandered to the beliefs of ignorant racists for 45 years and even added to their delusions and now act surprised about the results.

And now they are lying about ISIS, which George W. Bush created by lying about WMD to get congress to approve an invasion, and then installing a corrupt Shiia dictatorship who oppressed the Sunni until they invited ISIS in.

LMFAO

You really need a 51/50 48 hour psychiatric involuntary hold... :D

ETA:
5150 (involuntary psychiatric hold)

Section 5150 is a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) (in particular, the Lanterman–Petris–Short Act or "LPS") which authorizes a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person suspected to have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to themself, a danger to others, and/or gravely disabled. A qualified officer, which includes any California peace officer, as well as any specifically-designated county clinician, can request the confinement after signing a written declaration stating the psychiatric diagnosis that the diagnosing medical professional believes to be the cause or reason why they believe the patient to be "a danger to themselves or others" or the psychiatric disorder that has rendered the patient incapable of making their own medical treatment decisions.

In informal usage, 5150 (pronounced "fifty-one-fifty") can refer to the person being confined (e.g., "I have a possible 5150 here"), the declaration, or the act of committing someone (as in "(Someone) was 5150ed").

Also this:
Yesterday, Miami, Florida. Trump interview. Subject: US Navy Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba:
  • Reporter: “Would you try to get the military commissions, the trial court there, to try U.S. citizens?”

To be clear, the reporter is asking the man who wants to be president of the United States, the man who claims he's READ THE CONSTITUTION, if he as president would try United States citizens -- UNITED STATES CITIZENS, civilians -- in a military court.

Repeat, Trump was being asked if he would consider trying US civilians in a military court. That's what he's being asked. There is no ambiguity. The question is clear and specific: Should military courts have authority over US citizens?

That's the question.

Now, as an American, if you don't already know the correct answer, if you don't immediately understand why trying a civilian under military authority is 1) unconstitutional, 2) illegal, and 3) unAmerican, then you need to get your ass back to school immediately. Don't vote. Don't say another word. Don't. If that question doesn't set off every warning bell in your head, then you are not qualified to be a citizen of this republic.

And what did Donald Trump answer?

What indeed.

  • Trump: “Well, I know that they want to try them [American citizens accused of terrorism] in our regular court systems, and I don’t like that at all. I don’t like that at all. I would say they could be tried there [at Guantanamo Bay, under military authority]. That would be fine.”

That would be fine.

That would be fine.

If you can't see why this man is utterly and completely unqualified to serve in ANY elected position in the United States of America let alone as President, if that answer alone doesn't prove as much in your mind, then as I said above, you don't meet the minimum requirements for citizenship.

Trump will not make America great.

There is nothing whatsoever great about this dangerous madman.

We have long since passed the point where Trump's tendency to fascism can be ignored.

We have long since passed the point where the repeated, daily now, multiple warning signs can be dismissed as sarcasm, or jokes, or Trump just being Trump.

In the wreckage following WWII, people asked over and over, and continue to ask up to this very day: How could this have happened? How could you people, you Germans, how could you let that madman destroy your republic, destroy your nation, destroy your people, destroy your civilization? How? How is that possible? Why didn't you DO SOMETHING?

And the answer was: We didn't know. We thought he would make Germany great again. We thought he would make Germany for Germans, get rid of the undesirables. We thought he would rebuild our military, make it mighty again. We thought he would make the world fear us, respect us, acknowledge our superiority. He said he'd give us jobs, rebuild our infrastructure, make us all rich. We didn't know. We didn't know until it was too late!

Well, America, WE don't have that excuse.

WE do know.

And you're looking at it. You're looking at it every single goddamned day. You're looking at the pinched ugly faces of racists and bigots and haters, the KKK and the Neo-Nazis, Homophobia, Transphobia, Islamophobia, Anti-Semites, violence and fear of every kind touted as American values, jingoism, military fetishism, religious fanaticism, America only for Americans, walls, propaganda sold as truth despite its OBVIOUS AND PROVABLE falsehood, the cult of personality, the fear of the other, the suspicion that our neighbors and our government are plotting against us, the appeal to some supposed lost greatness, the nostalgia for the good old days of glory, and now the suggestion that civilians should be tried by military tribunal -- free of the burden of law, the Constitution, appeal, and all the values we Americans hold most dear. The very ideals those like Trump would say make us "exceptional," that is what we would deny others.

How could this happen?

It happens when the ideals of hope and optimism and community are replaced with fear and hate and intolerance. It happens inch by inch, day by day, as the idea of The Other takes hold. It happens when reason is replaced by the mindless shouting mob, when a nation that calls itself exceptional compromises its values for expediency, for rendition, for torture, for indefinite detention without trial or appeal because those things are EASY. They're easy. They're easier than holding fast to high ideals and the things which make us great. They're easier than facing down the mob, they're easier than honor.

That's how it starts.

And you don't have to look very far to see how it ends.

How could this happen?

It happens because we let it happen. Because we dismiss the warning signs. Like Bhopal. Like Chernobyl. Like the Titanic. Like ten thousand other disasters which could have been prevented and weren't.

Every day this guy gives warning. Every day.

Every day the alarms sound. Every day it grows worse.

Every day you see what an America under Trump would be like.

How could it happen?

Exactly like this.

The Donald spoke in Michigan Monday, revealing yet again, Trump economics, version whatever, and it's gonna be great.

Get rid of all those nasty government regs that are crippling American business. Restore the energy sector too its former greatness with unlimited petroleum extraction by whatever means necessary. And COAL! That is black gold folks. Think of all the jobs that is gonna bring back to America. Think of all the people that will get work testing everybody's drinking water (private commercial testing of course, more jobs there because as Flint showed, we can't trust the government) Think of all the people getting jobs for mine rescue as the coal shafts collapse when the mine is operated without all those pesky rules. And wonderful long-term jobs once more taking care of people with black lung disease. Now the mineral extraction industry can become great again. No government inspectors and the unions have already rolled over and died.

Like the Donald said, I am just being sarcastic.

Now I am not kidding--The Donald is appallingly ignorant of the basics connected to the job of president. Se the transcript above on trials for American citizens. Never mind the constitution. Read the Declaration of Independence. The actions of the King are like a check list for the Donald

I see that today he's got a rally scheduled in Connecticut...

A state that he doesn't have a snow ball's chance in hell of carrying...

Last week he was in Maine, which also doesn't have a prayer of winning, but he probably likes going there because aside from New Jersey it's about the only state he can visit where the incumbent Republican governor is willing to show up on the same stage with him...

Fine with me if he wastes his time campaigning in states he can't possibly win...

I think he should spend a few days in Massachusetts, and then go on to Vermont, and then fly out and spend a week in California...

He might want to hit Hawaii too...

Normally I just find the Trumpford Wives highly amusing...(I saw the chief Trumpford Wife, his official campaign spokesnimrod Katrina Pierson on MSNBC earlier today saying that Barack Obama invaded Afghanistan...She's a real Baghdad Babs...)

There's one on CNN regularly, Kayleigh something-or-other who's particularly hilarious...(I especially like it when they have her on with Anna Novarro, a GOP consultant who originally backed Jeb, then switched to Rubio when Bush pulled out and now refuses to back Trump. She really puts that freak in her place...Anna doesn't suffer a lot of nonsense...)

They remind me of the LaRouchies in the way they are willing to straight-faced spout the most outrageous talking points...

But one I've been really disappointed in is Kellyanne Conway...

Kellyanne has been involved in politics for a long time, (she used to date Fred Thompson) and is usually a pretty clear headed and thoughtful person. I really had some respect for her and her perspectives...

I say "had" because she has now drunk the Trump Koolaid big time...

I feel embarrassed for her when I see her spouting the Trump crapola...

Depressing...

I see that next up on the Trump Ethnic Communities To Offend Checklist is the Filipinos:

Trump upsets Filipinos with proposal to block immigration

When GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested that immigration from the Philippines should be stopped because it’s a terrorist nation, he likely ended any chance he may have had to compete for the Daly City vote.

Trump “is doing what he usually does, which is speaking without thinking,” said Mike Guingona, a councilman in Daly City, where a third or more of the 104,000 residents are Filipino Americans or of Filipino descent. “For someone to make such a broad and sweeping statement without any evidence is unacceptable.”

Speaking last week at a rally in Portland, Maine, Trump said allowing even legal immigration and tourism from countries plagued by terrorism is “pure, raw stupidity.”

Since last year, Trump has called for Muslims to be barred from entering the United States, and said last month that his position has “gotten bigger ... I’m talking about territories now.”

While he declined to say what nations would be included in a potential ban, he listed the Philippines as an example of where a resident legally moved to the United States and was arrested and sentenced last year to 25 years in prison for terrorist activities. However, there’s no evidence Filipino terrorism has permeated the U.S. — it’s a homegrown movement that generally stays there.

“We’re letting people come in from terrorist nations that shouldn’t be allowed because you can’t vet them,” Trump said. “You have no idea who they are. This could be the biggest Trojan horse of all time.”

But while it’s one thing to talk about banning immigration and tourist visits from countries like Chechnya, Uzbekistan, Somalia and Yemen, which Trump also did in his speech, putting the Philippines in that group is something entirely different, especially for the Bay Area.

A 2013 study by the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice found that Filipinos are the largest Asian ethnic group in the state, with 1.5 million residents, just ahead of the Chinese. More than half of those residents were born in the Philippines. In 2010, the Bay Area alone had nearly 500,000 Filipino or Filipino American residents.

For Democratic Alameda Assemblyman Rob Bonta, the state’s lone Filipino American legislator, Trump’s statement is nothing more than “divisive and hateful rhetoric.”

Trump’s proposal “is a direct attack on the Filipino community,” said Bonta, a former Alameda city councilman who was brought to California as an infant. “It’s a really important issue for the Filipino American community to focus on.”

In many ways, the concerns of the Philippines resemble those of Mexico, a country Trump has slammed for allowing millions of its residents to enter the U.S. illegally. Immigrants from both countries maintain close ties with relatives in their home countries, regularly traveling back for visits and celebrations. Both countries also depend heavily on remittances, money U.S. immigrants send to relatives in their native countries.

“I know people who go back and forth to the Philippines a couple of times a year or more,” Bonta said. Restrictions on travel in either direction would be devastating for families, he added.

Limitations like those Trump proposes would be disastrous for the Filipino community in Daly City and elsewhere, said Guingona, who is running for San Mateo County supervisor.

“It would be cutting what keeps us together,” he said. “We’re not just talking about immigration, but about people coming here to visit friends and relatives.”

Ressie Gilla moved from the Philippines to join her family in the Bay Area in 1996. On Friday afternoon, she was working in the back of Tselogs cafe on Mission Street in Daly City, helping to put together lumpia, a popular Filipino dish.

“My in-laws are still back there, my friends, my classmates,” she said. “I have a big, very close family, and I want them to visit.

“Besides, without Filipinos here, who would make the lumpia?”

Reaction to Trump’s call for tough immigration restrictions in California and other areas with a large Filipino population has been harsh.

“Donald Trump has expanded his bigoted attacks to include Asian-Pacific Americans,” said Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance (Los Angeles County), who was born in Taiwan. “It is more than just offensive. It is dangerous.”

“Donald Trump’s latest rant suggesting we ban immigration from countries like the Philippines that are helping us fight terrorism is another example of his reckless rhetoric that’s based on fear and division,” said Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii, where people of Filipino descent make up about a quarter of the population.

There was even more outrage in the Philippines itself, where one Filipino legislator has filed a bill in the country’s House of Representatives seeking to bar Trump from entering the country.

“Maybe (Trump) is speaking in broad strokes and he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about,” [my, that would make a change...] Ernesto Abella, a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte, said in an interview with a state-run radio station.

Philippines Community Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in an Aug. 5 statement that it was unfortunate Trump mentioned the Philippines in his anti-immigration speech.

Trump “has even professed his love for the Philippines during the (2012) launch of his 57-story luxury apartment” building, Trump Tower, in Manila, Andanar said. “He did say, ‘I’ve always loved the Philippines. I think it is just a special place.’” The building in Manila licensed Trump’s name — he was not the developer.

The GOP nominee wasn’t entirely wrong about the Philippines’ long-running problems with Islamic terrorism, however. While the country is overwhelmingly Christian, an estimated 6 percent of the population is Muslim, known locally as Moros.

Since the 1960s, the Philippine government has been involved in an off-and-on conflict with Moro fighters, who have called for an independent state on the island of Mindanao. In recent years, a number of the various Muslim groups have joined the Islamic State group and pledged, at least outwardly, allegiance to it and its Middle Eastern leader.

U.S. antiterrorism experts reportedly have worked closely with the Philippine government to battle the homegrown Islamic groups, which have generally confined their activities, including the kidnapping and murder of foreign visitors, to their own country.

But the country’s internal problems don’t warrant a broad-brush attack on the Philippines and its residents, Assemblyman Bonta said.

“There’s a Muslim insurgency in the Philippines, and we need to be sensitive to that reality,” he said. “But let’s see it for what it is and for where it’s happening and not put out sweeping statements that characterize an entire nation.”

Dozens of Republicans to urge RNC to cut off funds for Trump

The open letter pushes the RNC to shift resources to Senate and House races.

More than 70 Republicans have signed an open letter to Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus urging him to stop spending any money to help Donald Trump win in November and shift those contributions to Senate and House races.

The letter comes as a number of Republican senators and high-profile GOP national security officials have come forward saying they cannot vote for Trump.

“We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck,” states a draft of the letter obtained by POLITICO. “This should not be a difficult decision, as Donald Trump’s chances of being elected president are evaporating by the day.”

Former Sen. Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire and former Reps. Chris Shays of Connecticut, Tom Coleman of Missouri and Vin Weber of Minnesota are among the Republicans lending their name to the letter. Close to 20 of the co-signers are former RNC staffers, including Mindy Finn (former RNC chief digital strategist), Christine Iverson Gunderson (former RNC press secretary), Virginia Hume Onufer (former RNC deputy press secretary), Beth Miller (former RNC field communications division director), Heather Layman (former deputy press secretary), B. Jay Cooper (former RNC communications director under four chairmen) and Patrick Ruffini (former RNC ecampaign director).

Republican Andrew Weinstein, a vocal anti-Trump Republican, is one of the operatives organizing the letter, which began circulating earlier this week and is expected to be sent next week. Weinstein served as director of media relations for the Dole/Kemp presidential campaign and was deputy press secretary to then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Weinstein said that the letter is coming from “People who want the party to protect its majorities in the Senate and the House. It’s not an endorsement of anybody.”

A spokesman for the RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The letter ticks off a series of Trump actions that they believe have "alienated millions of voters of all parties,” including, attacking Gold Star families, positive comments about violent foreign leaders and encouraging Russia to find Clinton’s lost emails.

“Those recent outrages have built on his campaign of anger and exclusion, during which he has mocked and offended millions of voters, including the disabled, women, Muslims, immigrants, and minorities,” the letter states. “He also has shown dangerous authoritarian tendencies, including threats to ban an entire religion from entering the country, order the military to break the law by torturing prisoners, kill the families of suspected terrorists, track law-abiding Muslim citizens in databases, and use executive orders to implement other illegal and unconstitutional measures.”

I can't find a version of the letter that will copy and paste properly, but it's worth reading in its entirety. It's pretty comprehensive, and I can't see a single word in it to disagree with. You can read it here:

To fund or de-fund Trump? That is the question.

Either way the Repug down ballot is going to suffer. On the bright side they will have up to six years to restrategize their attack.

What a tangled web they have weaved...

Me, I loved the Newt's "Contract With America'. Most honest and understandable promise I have ever heard from a politician.

Go look it up. The contract was 1. Elect us and 2. We will think about talking about doing something about the following issues." Actually accomplishing anything was not part of the contract.
