Re: Yet another school shooting
In the interest of science, according to Family Feud here's the top ten reasons to own a gun (other than for home security):
1. collecting historical pieces for fun and profit (sale/resale)
2. going hunting
3. professional assassin
4. bank robber/stick up guy
5. total lunatic
6. in case of a sudden desire to commit suicide when the Redskins win
7. Civil War re-enactor (see #5)
8. well you did buy that gun-safe at a garage sale; shame to waste it
9. useful to have on hand as an emergency gift for Clint Eastwood if you happen to make friends
10. reminder to friends and family of the true meaning of discipline

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Yet another school shooting
The National Rifle Association has insisted that childhood obesity is only an issue because of the dangerous lack of junk food available to American schoolchildren.
In a press conference opposite the White House, NRA spokesperson Wayne LaPierre told gathered reporters that his organisation cared deeply about the children of his country, and would not rest until every single one of them had easy access to a terrible diet.
Speaking in sombre tones, he said, “We are at crisis point, and the only way to stop our children being negatively affected by junk food, is to make sure they are surrounded by even more junk food.”
“If you really think about it, no-one would be able to call a child ‘fat’ if everyone had a BMI well into the 50s.”
“Childhood obesity is only an issue because so few children have good access to junk food.”
LaPierre went on, “The liberal left will tell you that removing crappy foods from the equation would solve this crisis, but to that I would say ‘nay’.”
“It is a constitutional and God-given right of every american to have access to burgers the size of your head. We just need to even up the playing field – by filling it completely with fat kids.”
“So I call on congress today to ensure that every school in our great nation has easy access to cheap, poorly prepared fatty food with a low nutrient value.”
“Then one day soon we can forget about which of our children is ‘fat’, as they’ll all be exactly the same. Like true, free Americans.”

“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

Oh, well that explains it then....9. useful to have on hand as an emergency gift for Clint Eastwood if you happen to make friends
Clint lives in Carmel, which is just a short drive from Santa Cruz....
Rube has a gun on hand to offer as a welcome gift, just in case Clint should happen to drop by...

I guess I need to explain it to you....
Please pay attention.
There are some places on the internet where people go and ask questions to people they have come to know.
Like Plan B for example.
And there are many people who are helpful and give useful information.
As opposed to you, who are someone who claims to be a scientist but act like you have a motherfucking test tube stuck up your ass that was placed there by your rich doctor wife who supports you so you will care for her bees when she's not spending her ample free time (her defining characteristic) sticking her unprotected finger up old men's asses to check their prostates and then doesn't wash her hands before making you a shit sandwich because she enjoys watching you eat turds while you smile and grovel at her feet thanking her for allowing you to exist.
And furthermore, you have absolutely no reason to be here at Plan B other than to display yourself as an ongoing useless joke and to show how sick some people can be when they have nothing but hatred for people who are normal interacting humans.
Please go away.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, you perfect stinking example of festering excremental internet waste.
tch tch tch. You get caught lying about having read the article and lose all dignity and spew crap everywhere.. Well now you know what its like to be LJ or Gob! So you get something out of it after all.

So you enjoy target shooting so much, that you're willing to keep something in the house that makes you "less safe" " increases your risks" and makes it more likely that someone will break into your home?No one here has ever heard of target shooting?
Wow, you must really love target shooting...

You continue to prove that you reason at too low a level to be interesting.
In any case, I would not keep guns in a house with someone who has a history of mental illness, amphetamine abuse, alcohol abuse or with children.
That would be stupid.

The only way I could hold your interest rube, would be to jangle my keys in front of you, play peek-a-boo, or "magically" pull a quarter out of your ear....

Well I guess I'll be surrendering my gun at the door. Being a recovering alcoholic doesn't cut it I guess.
I will have you know that even many of us alcoholics do understand the lethal nature of guns and guard them against our own problems. My rifle happens to be locked in my cousins safe which I do not know the combo too (although I do know where it is written down).
And forget guns and alcohol, target (pun intended) drunks and driving.
I was having a discussion with a buddy of mine over the weekend about semi-automatic weapons and why would anyone need them for hunting. He was asking about my Remington 600 which fires a .350 magnum cartridge which is way over and above needed to take down a deer. I told him that where I hunt (Maine) there are moose and bear which might laugh at a smaller caliber that doesn't hit the right mark. He brought up how a semi auto pistol (9mm or 45) or even a semi auto rifle would be nice to have if a moose or bear start charging at you. Fast firepower at the ready might mean the difference between living or getting gored or mauled.
Re: Yet another school shooting
'Fast firepower?' What happened to accurate responsible operation. Spraying the vacinity of a target is not a viable alturnative for accuracy. Even the U.S. Army understood that when they developed the three shot limiter on the M-16 during automatic mode. Saved ammo and calmed down the trigger happy.
I expect to go straight to hell...........at least I won't have to spend time making new friends.

Re: Yet another school shooting
While I do agree with you Miles about the difference between "quality" fire power versus "quantity" fire power. When you have 2 tons worth of beast (also known as a moose) bearing down on you, your aim is not the best. So quantity sometimes become the only defense.
I am a really good shot at the range. thankfully I have not had a bear or moose charge me as I only keep 3 cartridges in my rifle (it holds 6). Bolt action I might (in my best days) get those three shots off while the animal is charging. Then one has to deal with adrenalin and the fear and anything else that goes along with the situation. Having a semi that can get 10-15 shots off quick increases ones chances.
Same reason the average soldier now has a selectable automatic weapon with a 30 round clip(?) while in WWII they were semi with a 6 shot clip.

Re: Yet another school shooting
The difference is that--unlike the soldier facing enemy fire--you put yourself in the situation of being in front of 2 tons of charging moosemeat, entirely of your own volition. I know it's pretty dangerous (the only moose I've ever killed was dispatched by means of an automobile, and even that involved a rather large dose of adrenalin!), but there's something to be said for facing up to the real danger involved in a sport. Would you want to take an RPG launcher on a hunting trip, just in case?
People who are wrong are just as sure they're right as people who are right. The only difference is, they're wrong.

Re: Yet another school shooting
RPG not needed, for me anyway, all I need (hopefully) is the three shots I load in my six shot remington 600 . The cartridges are a .350 magnum so if a good hit, I have a good chance at surviving. But there are a lot of hunters out there who are not as good a shot who might need a little bit more "quantity" when inadvertently confronting a moose/bear. Yes, they put themselves in the position of hunting and maybe encountering game they didn't expect, but shouldn't they, knowing that they may have to defend themselves, legally be able to do it? After all, they are hunting for game, not school children (nor adults).
Re: Yet another school shooting
If they are not a good enough shot to defend themselves with six shots against a moose or bear then maybe they're indulging in the wrong pastime... it's much like a rock climbing baby wanting a helmet.
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
