trump was ambiguous at worst. he just said, "we will have to do a lot of things" in response. he knew it was a gotcha question and he did not say anything like he was portrayed as saying

"I would certainly implement that. Absolutely," Trump told NBC News during a campaign stop in Newton, Iowa.

He continued: "There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems."

Trump, who also said this week that he would consider shutting down mosques, told Yahoo News earlier Thursday that "we're going to have to look at a lot of things very closely" when asked about a national database for Muslims.

Those answers seemed at odds with a follow-up question from CNN's Sara Murray in Newton. When Murray asked whether Trump would rule out a database for Muslims, he said he didn't "know where you heard that."

"Yahoo News asked you about it, you didn't rule it out," Murray said as Trump worked a ropeline after the event.

"No, I never -- I never responded to that question," Trump said.

"So would you not support it?" Murray asked.

"I never responded to that question, Sara," Trump said.

He added that he didn't "know who wrote it," referring to the Yahoo News article, and declined to answer a follow-up question from Murray about whether he would "support something like that," referring to a Muslim database. He also declined to respond when Murray asked "what's your view of it?" as he continued down the ropeline.

Once again, Trump is brazenly lying about something he has said....

He never has any problem denying he said something anyone can see on video he in fact said...He's even denied saying things he said at his announcement speech...

Wes, I listened to it before I posted...

He's asked the specific follow up question, "But that's something you White House would implement?" (after he doesn't give a specific answer to the original question, "Should there be a data base to track Muslims in the United States?"

To which he responds:

"I would certainly implement that. Absolutely,"

And then when asked about how he would accomplish the implementation, he gives his usual all purpose BS answer about "good management"...(the answer he always gives to any question about how he will accomplish any outrageous thing he proposes, because he doesn't actually have a real answer.)

I don't think it could be any more clear. I really don't see any room for ambiguity...

Spot the CNN lies though. The video is one thing - it has a semi-correct descriptor that Trump wants Syrians in a database/register.

But the written article (quoted above) is has a large headline declaring Trump wants to register all US Moslems

The article leads off with the same:

But that is not the question he was asked and that he responded to. The reporter asked if he would implement a database/registration of all Moslem immigrants. Not USians. Immigrants.

News flash: all aliens are registered. Immigrants and refugees are already in a database. Presumably the thrust here is that the reporter wants to know if Trump would have INS add a "Moslem" descriptor to what is already there.

It used to be the law that as a registered alien, I was required to visit the Post Office once a year and report my current address on an INS form. Somewhere around 1982 that requirement seemed to vanish overnight for at my next annual visit to the PO, they had no idea what form I was asking for - never heard of it, despite the previous years of registration I'd dutifully completed.

Whether we view as right or wrong Trump's stupidity...er sorry... awfulness... no... ignorance... oh whatever... what CNN has done there is blatantly wrong.

Ok, I went back and listened to it again...

It's the anchor who intros the piece who uses the phrase "Muslim Immigrants", not the reporter questioning Trump . Here's the exact wording of the question Trump was asked:

"Should there be a database system that tracks the Muslims here in this country?"

Nothing about "immigrants"...

The error that CNN made was the sloppy journalism on the anchor's part to characterize Trump being asked about "Muslim immigrants" when he was in fact asked about "Muslims here in this country" (which obviously covers all Muslims within the country's borders.)

Trump was not answering a question that referred only to "Muslim immigrants". The question he answered was mischaracterized in the set-up for the video.
