I was unable to view the entirety of both testimonies. Listening to the pundits on both sides (flipping between cnn and fox), it's equally divided with "he was belligerent" and "he was righteously indignant". The only thing that seems universal is "She was sincere and believable".

My take on his testimony is the same as the main reason I did not support DJT in the election - the temperament. He came off to me as unhinged and decidedly partisan. It shadowed whether he was believable or not and perhaps that was the point. It seems that he really only needed to convince 3 or 4 members of the committee as swing votes.

Seeing my social media feeds fill up with anti-Christine memes is also telling of many on my friends list. I haven't seen any "pro Judge Kavenaugh" posting, just postings making fun of Dr Ford. Honestly, that tells me more than anything if his supporters cannot think of anything meaningful to say on his behalf and instead take to discrediting his accuser.

I can share that all the lawyers on my feed are shocked and dismayed by Kavanaugh's testimony yesterday, for its partisan content and for the tenor. His demeanor alone, his treatment of the Democratic Senate Judiciary members, is disqualifying. He shouldn't be sitting on the Court of Appeals, much less should he be elevated to the SCOTUS.

Even uglier than the trauma of yesterday's hearings is the deep damage that is being done to the American people's confidence in the judiciary by virtue of this confirmation process, which is deeply flawed. Believe me that the American Bar Association wouldn't weigh in absent a deep concern for the preservation of judicial independence.

Trump is an evil fuck who is destroying this country; this nomination is something that cannot be undone by a next Democratic (or saner GOP) administration, and it is a stain that will last generations. It is going to gut public confidence in the SCOTUS.

I can't believe that Jeff Flake is going to vote to send him up with a favorable recommendation. All his pretty speeches amount to nothing in the face of such a despicable vote.

Yep, Flake appears to be worthy of his name. His comments about noyt being able to determine what happened and the presumption of innocence are ridiculous. If he honestly cannot tell what happened, why wouldn't he want an investigation. And where does he get a presumption of innocence applies in a proceeding like this?

Well, I haven't read any official vote projections, but my bey is that the full senate will vote to confirm, with a couple of dems voting with the republicans. We haven't yet heard anything from Murkowski and Collins, but I'll best they crumble the way Flake did.

Collins particularly should know she is in deep trouble in two years because the word was already out that there are tens of millions of dollars lined up for her opponent if she votes to confirm. Murkowski has already proved that she can be elected without the backing of the party, so she has nothing to lose by voting no. If they cave, they will prove themselves to be Trump's whores far more that Stormy Daniels ever was, and I don't usually like applying that term to a woman.

I still have some hope after the huddle yesterday that even after agreeing to send it forward to the full Senate, Flake is planning to get his final revenge on Trump by voting no with the other two.

Ever the optimist; I just tend to expect far less from people, and I am rarely disappointed. IMHO, flake made his deal with the devil (for whatever reason hi did) and will live up to it.

I don't know if Mitch has votes yet or not, but I'm pretty sure there will be a vote in the next few days on Kavanaugh whether he rounds them up or not...

I don't think there's any desire on the part of the GOP Senate leader to drag this out any further. I think he'll do everything he can to get to at least the 50 he needs (with Pence breaking the tie) but if he can't I think at this point the way they look at it is that it would be preferable politically to "go down fighting" rather than withdraw the nomination...

And then use the defeat as an issue to try to energize the base against Red State Democratic Senators running in the midterms, who didn't vote for Kavanaugh... and then start over with a new nominee...

I believe they see that as preferable to dragging things out with Kavanaugh, whose nomination is certainly not going to get any more politically popular with the passage of time...(and the opportunity for even more shit to hit the fan...)

With Flake gone, (And since he said "I will vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh," rather than something like "I will vote to send Judge Kavanaugh's nomination to the floor" I think it's pretty safe to assume that his vote is gone. Even though he might switch to stick it to Trump, I have a hard time imagining him being that duplicitous to Kavanaugh) the math for stopping the nomination gets pretty tough...

With 50 votes needed, you have to have both Collins and Murkowski voting no, with zero Democrats crossing over to support the nomination. (That leaves space for either Collins or Murkowski to cast a no vote while the nomination still passes)

Still possible, but a real long shot...

I think Flake has a lot to lose. I feel he has aspirations to run for president in 2020. A "no" vote for Kavanaugh will put the kibosh on any chance for serious funding for his candidacy if he refuses to vote with the good ol' boys. Remember, the run for 2020 starts a few hours after the polls close on November 6th.

Flake may be flaky but he know$ how the game is played.

Well apparently what's going on is that Flake has voted to advance the nomination, but will only support it on a floor vote if that vote is delayed for a week while an FBI investigation is conducted into the allegations currently before the committee...

The decision is up to McConnell, but Flake also indicated that there were others on the GOP side that have the same position, so if McConnell (and Trump, who I believe would have to sign off on it) wants to get this nomination through they'd have to go along with the FBI investigation...

At least that's the way it looks at the moment...
