I really don’t think either of them is smart enough to be a puppet master. Though to be fair both of them are arrogant enough to believe they are.

Elon Musk's IQ is estimated to be in the 155 to 160 range according to various internet sources.

It might surprise some here to know that mine has been measured by Mensa and found to be 156 or 158 (they used two measurement schemes with one test) around 1990. (My boss called me a dumbshit for some perceived transgression - I didn't know him well enough at that point, and I didn't realize that 'dumbshit' was a term of endearment in his eyes. So I thought to myself - no, I'm not - and took the Mensa test as a form of self determination.). It stuck me then that if I were good at hitting a baseball or painting a portrait or designing a cathedral I would not be coy about it: so why should I hide my ability to do puzzles? Which is, after all, what an IQ test measures.

So there you go. I don't know what, if anything, this proves. Why is Musk worth $400 billion? He works hard. Well, we all do. He's smart. Not really. He has - allegedly - an IQ comparable to mine. Which means he is good at little puzzles. Which does not translate to very much.

Musk simply believes his own hype. Most of his problems come from the fact that he can not take constructive criticism or advice. The vast majority of the problems with the cybertruck arose from the fact that he wouldn’t listen to his own engineers when he warned him of the problems caused by the materials and designs he wanted.

There is no measurement for intelligence.

FWIW, I think Trump is arrogant enough to believe he is, and stupid enough to not realize he is being controlled by his betters. Musk? I don't think he gives a damn--he is arrogant enough to believe he is above it; he doesn't want to be a puppet master, he believes people will willingly do what he wants because he is the "uberman." As CP says, he honestly believes his own hype (so does Trump, but that's mor3 out of stupidity than excessive arrogance.

I recall a college professor who was like that; he was fairly intelligent but the world's biggest asshole; I don't understand why, but some people love people like that. The story we used to tell is that he believes he sits on the top of the mountain, god on the other, and he gives god permission to speak when he wants to. He rarely had a grad student who stayed with him more than a few months and never collaborated with his peers (because he didn't believe he had any; but he did have so e good postdocs under his grants so he published--SFAIK no post doc stayed longer than their initial contract time) and turned into something of a joke over the course of his career. I often wonder what might have been developed if he learned the lesson of working and playing well with others.

I think Musk could benefit from this as well; combining his impressive intellect and talents with those of others in collaboration could yield even greater results, but he can't help being an asshole.

There are some rumors that Elon Musk is 'on the spectrum' and before it was officially dropped, identified as Asperger's Syndrome. The label was changed after some weird moral judgement. Individuals with Aspergers frequently test veryr high on standard IQ tests. The same process was applied to very accurate and useful information about hypothermia accumulated by the NAZIs by dunking prisoners into the waters of the Arctic and observing the effects. About 50 years ago it was generally agreed that it was immoral to use this very complete and accurate data because it was tainted by the means that created it. There fore medical agencies could not use that data to shape recommendations for treatment of humans exposed to cold now.

"There is no intelligence test" because there is some controversy as to what is intelligence. The Standard IQ tests do measure something. Individuals and groups have found the information from IQ tests, whatever it is that is measured, to be useful in particular applications. And also nonsense in others. Thus the controversy.

BP--I can see how the data developed by the nazis could have some good practical value, but what would maintaining the label of Aperger's do for anyone? To me it seems like a label without any practical consequence.

As for IQ tests, perhaps some useful data is generated in determining how well an individual can see patters and solve puzzles, but i really don't see practical implications. Like in sports, I think hard work could far exceed natural talent; and from what I have read, even those very "intelligent" kids who graduate college in their teens are often exceeded by those who realize the value of hard work. And there is no test I know for that.

There are probably a few really phenomenal individuals who come along in a generation, but they would usually be recognized without any test. And even if they are not, many make their marks anyway.

Musk doesn’t have the intellect people credit him with (outside of financially backing some good ideas).

I just saw on social media that people are calling his ugly trucks Swasticars and also they are calling him Leon and even better Adolf Titler which so perfectly fits.

Always important to find some humor in the resistance to fascism.

"Anal Musk" is one I saw James Fell use (he who coined "the Manchurian Cantaloupe", among others).
