Unless I decide "fuck it" and go on welfare, the day I need a handout is the day I eat a bullet.

I have no desire to live as an invalid.

I've been working for wages on the books since I was 15, full time or more since I was 17. I worked my way through school, full time for most of it, part time in law school. I've worked so long and at times for such good wages that my estimated SSDI benefits are pretty decent - but I'm not applying (yet) because I want very much to believe that I'll still be able to engage in substantial gainful activity for many more years to come.

But I'm on Medicaid and I have zero shame about that. Medicaid is getting me to a very good neurologist next month and getting me an MRI before then so he can evaluate the progression of a chronic neurological condition I didn't ask for and had no control over becoming afflicted with. This neurological condition limits my ability to be the person I used to be - I'm not that person anymore, I'm a new person with a new life and new and sometimes scary challenges. But I'm still ME! I still have lots of people I love and lots of things I love to do - even though some of them are a lot harder sometimes now, like reading and hiking.

So I suggest you think a little more before you spout off that invalids should just be dead, because there are lots of people with limiting conditions of varying degrees who still think life is worth living and I have a sneaking suspicion that you would very likely feel that way if you suddenly found yourself in their shoes, too.

As to any suggestion you are making that I'm dead weight because I'm on Medicaid? Fuck you. I worked very hard, I passed up a fat firm salary to engage in public service, I suffered terrible vicarious trauma prepping prosecution cases that required me to wallow in the details of the most depraved actions of my fellow citizens so I could protect my other fellow citizens from further harm, the intense stress of my jobs in the criminal injustice system very likely triggered this incurable neurological condition, and I have EVERY RIGHT to be able to preserve what's left of my health with a hand up from you. I paid in plenty, what the fuck else was that for?! I will not live long enough to collect Social Security; I am 46 now, diagnosed at 45 with the likelihood that I was already suffering for at least 5 years before formal diagnosis because my shit doctors kept blowing my symptoms off. 25-35 years is the typical life expectancy post-diagnosis, less if the disease becomes progressive.

So seriously, fuck off. I'll collect whatever the fuck help I need.
You seem to be projecting. I never said invalids should be dead. I said that I would prefer death to living as an invalid.

Jarl, obviously you're committed. This is a mission you don't want to screw up. Those who survive this tragic stupidity regret every day after. No do-overs. BTW -- how old are you now?

Here's my suggestion -- SABOT SLUGGER AMMO 12 GAUGE 3" 1 OZ. RIFLED SLUG. Yes, they may be expensive but they'll get the job done. Also, to avoid messy clean up for your relatives, go outside to the garden and put a tarp over your soon-to-be lifeless body before eating your blue-steel sandwich. This is sure to garner glowing reviews at your grave site.

If you're gonna' do it... do it right. No need to thank me... you're welcome.

Jarl - I'm 67 and still having a pretty good time. It really is not bad. Of course I wish I were 17 again or even 35 (I'd buy myself some Microsoft stock) but I'd marry the same lady. Of course whether she would have me if she were 35 again is a different question.

I actually have a friend - well really his wife is more my friend than he is - who fucked up blowing his head off.

His life is pretty humiliating and lacking in any real quality now; the rest of hers is destroyed as she is burdened with his extensive care, his angry/violent outbursts post-TBI, and he is not really able to provide any of the positive aspects of a loving partner in exchange.

If you decide to do it, make sure you choose a remote spot where nobody will find you to save you before you bleed out, in case you fuck it up.

He'll probably respond that getting old(er) is not a "temporary problem". But actually, getting old(er) is usually not a real "problem" at all...unless, of course, you convince yourself that it is one.

Expecting people to be as loving and kindhearted as I am inherently has always been a huge source of pain, my entire life from earliest childhood.

Getting used & abused repeatedly by people I trusted or thought highly of has after 45 years left me the same trusting idiot but coated in many layers of bitterness.

But there are still dogs, books, beaches and some good people out there. So I persist.

Back to the thread topic - whatcha think of this?
Brian Kline is the type of person who voted for President Donald Trump in November. He’s a working-class man whose job is in retail, scoring him $11.66/hour. Thanks to Medicaid he’s being treated for cancer. During the CNN town hall with Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Kline explained his situation and his struggles. “My question is pretty straightforward,” Kline told Price. “Why do you want to take away my Medicaid expansion?” Price’s dispassionate answer seemed to fall flat on the audience. “I took care of a lot of patients with cancer,” Price explained about his 20 years as an orthopedic surgeon. “We don’t want to take care away from anybody. What we want to make certain, though, is that every single American has access to the kind of coverage and care that they want for themselves.”

“But, what if there are people out there who are going to die more quickly because of what you’re doing here, because you’re essentially taking medical care away from people who need it the most?” Kline wouldn’t back down. “Are you saying you actually want people to be okay with that?” Price thought for a second, then replied: “Look, I understand how all of this sounds right now, but you know, there comes a time in everyone’s life when they just have to stop talking B.S. and be practical. As of right now, the fact to the matter is, our national budget is hemorrhaging money because of Obamacare. And believe me – I get how insensitive that sounds, but at the end of the day, we have to stop ignoring the facts here.”

He continued, “I understand that this is not something anyone wants to hear, especially people who’ve got worse problems to deal with than the state of the national budget, but this is one of those situations where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. When President Trump assumed office, he was appalled at the state of the national budget and our finances. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Barack Obama was to blame, since he’s the one who left the hot potato behind for us to deal with. Now, I’m not going to go into whether or not he did that on purpose, but at the end of the day, all I can say is, we have to fix the problem or else we’re looking at nationwide riots and another economic recession.”

“Put simply, we have to plug some holes – of which, by the way, there are plenty – and we kind of have to start with the biggest ones,” the orthopedic surgeon added. “Unfortunately for millions of people across the country, Obamacare seems to be the biggest one by far. Besides, there are more ways than one to look at this picture. I know it’s not pretty, but at the end of the day, even people who are able to fight off cancer – I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, Brian – they can’t lead 100 percent normal lives, ever again. What kind of an existence is that, to have to survive instead of live?”

“At the risk of sounding insensitive, we’ve pretty much got two choices here: we either repeal Obamacare, or we take out more loans from countries like China. And nobody wants to be in debt to the Chinese. At the end of the day, it’s better for our national budget if cancer patients pass away more quickly, it’s a lousy way to live anyway, and I’m sorry to say it out loud, but it’s the truth,” Price concluded.

:arg If Price and Trump actually believe that about the federal budget (SPOILER: they don't), they should not be talking about cutting ANYONE'S taxes, especially not the taxes of those who, even without a tax cut, are already the most comfortable and well-off.

CTE can only be diagnosed at an autopsy. How do you know you have it?

You might be putting the cart before the horse. Nonetheless, you seem to have everything pretty well planned out. If you remember me in your will with anything of value I'd be eternally grateful. Thanking you in advance.
