Our long national nightmare is over
Re: Our long national nightmare is over
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been well behind the curve on e-filings. Even when e-filing were allowed (pre-pandemic) hard copies with color covers were still required.

BTW - over 25 years for me now, also. And busier than ever. Thank goodness I love my clients, they ask a lot of me!Sue U wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 1:55 pmI have been in practice more than 25 years and have never seen legal size paper used except for wills and deeds (and nowadays not even for that). Briefs filed in the US Supreme Court are printed up as small booklets their own special size; I've had half a dozen cases go that far, and I hire a specialty printing service to do the worrying for me about font, format, page size, table of contents, table of authorities, etc. I do a pretty fair amount of appellate work, and all other state and federal courts I've been in now use standard 8.5x11 size pages -- but hardly anyone even uses paper anymore at all; it's all electronic filing now.

I wanted to thank you for the links and explanations everyone. There is so much garbage information out there and it makes it difficult to see clearly.

The states of New California and New Nevada have just filed proposed Amicus briefs.
Yes, you read that correctly. The crazy hasn’t begun to be fully released yet.

WTAF???
Regardless of what happens, I can't see how the country can avoid devolving into a second civil war.
Did I miss the news that two new states had been admitted to the Union? Do fictitious "states" now claim standing to argue before the Supreme Court?Part of the reason for the formation of New California State and New Nevada Sate is to stop the lawless actions of Governors Newsome (California) and Sisolak (Nevada). An opinion by this Court affirming a national, uniform rule of law reestablishing the supremacy of The Electors Clause of Article II, § 1 of the United States Constitution will resolve some of the complaints causing the establishment of these new States.

Probably a sentiment of taxation without (in their minds) representation behind it. I feel that on a local level all the time, not to the point of revolt though. Our property taxes are through the roof now thanks to the escalating needs and desires concerning crotch goblins, of which I have none.

They should at least do enough research to learn to spell Governor Newsom's name correctly.

Just how much money is involved in bringing a court to the Supremes? I am speaking in terms outside of what the lawyers is getting for going thru the motions. What does it cost to file the paperwork? Could this be a new source of income for lonely single practitioners?

I don't understand the sentence about Alito and Thomas - they would allow the filing. Does that mean that they think that Texas has standing, but they will not, at least for now, say how they would rule?

I think it means that as long as the complaint is in the form of an action by one state against the other, they'd allow it to be filed, but would deny the requests for emergency action to invalidate any election results. And because they would not proceed to the merits at this point, they wouldn't offer any opinion on the merits in any event.

I see one of the NYT comments answers my question. Several others have asked basically the same. Thanks Sue.

@syfredrick It's my understanding that Thomas and Alito believed that SCOTUS was technically required to allow Texas to file a bill of complaint, but indicated that they would "not grant other relief", meaning they would have voted "no" to the plaintiff.
SCOTUS saved us...for now.
Peace.
