As the tanks rolled past the near empty stands...
Re: As the tanks rolled past the near empty stands...
How would the US Capitol be any easier to get to if it were in the center of the country? Do you think it's easier to get to Belle Fourche, South Dakota than it is to Washington DC?

back to the initial topic of this thread--the parade. I did not pay much attention to it, as I did other stuff with the tv on showing the parade.
A friend told me the marching band, as it passed the reviewing stand, played 'Fortunate Son" Look that one up. It is a powerful anti-war and anti- privilege class protest song from the Viet Nam war era. That informed me that Hegseth and Trump do not have a firm grip on the total military culture in our big beautiful USofA.

I had to check that was true and I was thrilled to see that it was. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump ... unate-son/
There is a clip of the parade on the Snopes article and again, it's really striking to me how poorly the soldiers are marching. I cannot believe that it was not deliberate.
I truly hope the military is mostly disgusted by our wanna be dictator who doesn't care if their families can afford to eat or if they get the medical and psychological care we owe and promised them when they enlisted.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Ah the good old days! No, there is no actual infinity. It just seems that way

For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts

The song was a fixture of Trump's campaign. It doesn't surprise me that no one working for him had the courage to tell him that the song was about him.Burning Petard wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 1:53 pmA friend told me the marching band, as it passed the reviewing stand, played 'Fortunate Son" Look that one up.
