MGM. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT...

Post by RayThom »

... the meaning of the word 'is' is.

I read right past that apostrophe and thought nothing of it. Did you take up proof reading in your spare time? You're good.

I missed my vocation. I am now a grammar Nazi in my spare time. I must confes's that the misu'se of the apostrophe just drive's me crazy, though it was les's of a drive and more of a 'short putt.

It is an honest question, I do want to know and it is not about Obama. It is about Sue or more precisely her attitude towards the Constitution. To me the Constitution is sacred, but among my liberal friends I have come to the conclusion it is not predominately the case. A parallel could be made with marriage vows or a contract. “Are they words you say then forget“? (Judds) Perhaps the liberal motto should be: Pity the fool the fool that follows the rules.
I have been busy, so sorry for the delay in reply, but thanks ever so much to Guin, Scooter and Jim for sticking up for me and to Joe Guy for answering the question pretty much exactly as I would have, had I thought an answer was actually needed.

To liberty: As I have said many times, I am not a "liberal;" I am (to you, much worse) a socialist. And I have tremendous respect and admiration for the Constitution as a founding document of this nation and the supreme law of the land; it is brilliantly devised in that it sets forth so little in specifics and so much in principle. As Guin pointed out, I have sworn an oath to uphold and defend it, which I take with deadly seriousness. A substantial part of my work deals directly with Constitutional issues in the conext of the courts (from jurisdiction to due process to double jeopardy to free speech to religious establishment/free exercise). But your view of the Constitution as "sacred" is something the founders themselves would have found laughable. They recognized that they were only men attempting to formulate a schematic for the organization of a government in their own time and place. The product of revolution themselves, and versed in the inadequacies of the Articles of Confederation, the founders expected conditions and institutions to change, and many didn't expect the Constitution itself to last for very long. I think the development of a uniquely American conception of judicial review and constitutional jurisprudence has been what has saved the document and preserved its relevance for the last 220-some years. But making a fetish of the Constitution -- while never actually understanding it -- is a sure path to demagoguery and destruction of the very purpose for which it was conceived.

Ten reasons why dgs "must" vote for Romney:

10. He has a properly American number of vowels in his last name

9. Efficiency expert: why should family dog take up space inside of car? There is unlimited room on car roof. Besides, he likes wind blowing in his face at 70 mph.

...or how about this...

9. Humans will inhabit the car. Dog vomit and other bodily excretions are rather disgusting, and the dog rather enjoys having the wind blowing about. And the dog is relatively safe and perfectly content in its cage.

Of course! The dog was so happy he shit himself all over the roof of the car.

And then after being hosed down, was put back in the box.

Good and responsible dog owners take care of dog vomit and other bodily functions in a responsible way. Bad dog owners leave the dog to wallow in its feces and vomit at 70 mph.

My uncle's dog has to be physically restrained to prevent him from sticking his head out the window on the highway, even at 70+MPH. So did Marm.

The poor beast was no doubt crated on the roof of the 70mph vehicle.

Whoever would do that to a dog has some serious mental health issues.
