If the FBI, in a whirlwind investigation finds not much new, more of the same, he'll say "well that's it then, if you can't convict him of a crime you HAVE to put him on the Supreme Court". In the unlikely event that they find something more damning then he can vote against him with little fallout.

I cannot believe that he plans on running for president after abandoning a senate seat because his own party was going to knock him off. It's too illogical.

After the committee vote, CNN cut to Trump, post meeting with Chilean President Pinera, who was flashing this picture. I assume that he (Pinera) was making some sort of point about how the US flag includes the Chilean flag which of course it doesn't. Consider your own past.  Let's say YOU were up for a prestigious legal appointment — a seat on a Federal District Court of Appeals, for example.  Everything is going swimmingly, but then, suddenly, one of your long-ago classmates come forth with an allegation that you traded sexual favors for grades with one (or more) of your professors, or that you cheated on a crucial exam, or that you plagiarized your JD thesis.

How would you defend yourself?  How could you rebut that?  I contend that after so many years have gone past that it is utterly impossible to do so.  It would eventually come down to a matter of "he said/she said", with the bystanders forced to decide whose word to believe... and when it comes to allegations of sexual improprieties against a male, ANY male, under any circumstances, it is all-too-obvious exactly whom you choose to believe.

And that's my feeling about so many of these allegations of sexual predation made so far after the fact.  While I have no empirical proof, it is my firm belief that for every legitimate claim being made by a victim of a sexual assault, there must dozens more where the allegation is shaky and tenuous at best ... and if you are honest (at least to yourself) about it, you must admit that there exists no incontrovertible proof that my beliefs are not valid.

But keep those blinders on, counselor; stick to your guns and never admit that there may be other shades besides all black and all white.  You're also wasting your time and energy with the name-calling; "sticks and stone, et cetera", dont'cha know?  Besides, I've been called far worse names than 'Neanderthal', with far less reason, and by what I am sure were far better people.

I don’t expect to prevail on liberty’s good character to end this line of discussion - so I’m going to kindly request that Scooter will.

Please understand that for me at least, this thread is a huge trigger, as I am myself a survivor of sexual assault who has also vicariously experienced the trauma of many dozens of victims with whom I have worked over the years.

This thread about the Kavanaugh nomination has become a discussion about how sexual assault victims should be treated, and how those accused should be held to account. These are difficult topics on their own, and for victims it is often painful to entertain the views of others on these subjects - especially others who may be insensitive via lack of personal experience or simple contempt for the topic and the victims.

I’m guessing that there are other survivors reading and/or posting here, so I speak for them in asking that we keep this thread respectful as relates to these topics. It’s not a place to be discussing sex acts in joking fashion diminishing women, or even in an argument defending individual sex practices in graphic fashion to disturb a known homophobe.

I very much respect that you are entitled to defend yourself Scooter, but I guess I’m asking you out of respect for the pain this discussion brings up for me (if nobody else) that you ignore liberty here and engage on the topic with him elsewhere, as necessary.

Jim, I have discovered by accident that my new posting style has a beneficial psychological effect on me. I feel much less stressed and I just feel better about . … I can’t really explain it. I have been trying to teach myself to type for year; I have made more progress here lately than I have in a long time.
