Life was so much simpler then. It was easy to smile and forgive. We could take comfort in the advice to never ascribe to malice what can be explained by simple human incompetence. In my own experience I trace a curve that begins with the press conferences of President Ike, with later points by Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin and then Bush 43. We were so naive. Now we have our POTUS and it is clear the curve is accelerating rapidly.

I just spent 30 minutes listening to Trump's call in to Fox "News" last night.

I have often called him unhinged in a 'he's nuts!" sort of way - not meant as a clinical diagnosis (after all, I don't even play a psychiatrist on TV) but as a general observation. I now think that he actually is mentally ill. He has no ability to stay on topic and he has no ability to separate truth from fiction. His only yardstick on which to measure any piece of information is: does this help me? If yes, it's true; if not, it's fake. I like Comey's way of putting it: untethered to truth.

If he goes on trial before the Senate (which, after all, is what impeachment is) can he be judged not guilty on grounds of insanity?

since impeachment is not a criminal proceeding but a way to remove someone from office, I don't think there is any defense of mental incapacity (indeed that could be a reason for removal from office).

So if it comes to pass that Lord Numbnuts' efforts?  machinations?  meddling?  brings some sort of normalcy, tranquility, and harmony between the two Koreas, a precedent has been established that would legitimize his being considered.

I have to agree; Kissinger got peace prize for his efforts in resolving the Vietnam debacle (and there was much criticism of those efforts as well, as I recall the Vietnamese president declined to accept, at least partly because Kissinger was included), even though he probably made the world less stable by is high handed "diplomacy".
