I live in Massachusetts and receive weekly email updates from my Representative and Senators - Auchincloss, Warren and Markey. I send them snail mail correspondence once yearly to thank them for their continued excellent representation of me in Congress.

I understand that there is little they can do on Ukraine in the face of this wrecking ball you fucking idiots elected to the White House. Article II grants him these powers and you fuckers are the ones who are responsible for betraying the people of Ukraine and eastern Europe, possibly all of Europe.

I don't respond to a math problem where the OP is clear and logical and gets it right. Net result: the more you are wrong, the more money you make. What a world and how did we get here?

85% of the German electorate showed up to vote, and 20% of them chose the new German Nazi party - the AfD. Conservatives control Germany and will doubtless use the US abandonment of Ukraine as justification for solving their economic woes by rebuilding the German military industrial complex and the German military.

We spent decades subsidizing NATO and leading NATO to avoid a re-militarized Europe - and in particular a re-militarized re-Nazified Germany.

It seems we cannot create any really new stories, just the same old stories over and over with better tech.

As I've said probably exhaustively, I'm descended from Nazis myself. I'm tremendously proud of Germany on the one hand and all our amazing contributions to human culture and advancement through science . . . but of course there is SO much of which to be ashamed.

I know that Germany has had compulsory education for generations in attempt to undermine the Nazi hearts, but you can't legislate what's in a person's heart and knowing firsthand how strong the Nazi is in my brothers and sister here in the USA who were only raised by US Nazi sympathizers, I can only imagine how strong the Nazi is in many over there. The 20% who voted for AfD are not the whole of the problem and we all know that. Given the right circumstances . . .

I do believe that the likely Chancellor Merz is reacting to our fascist president the only way that is reasonable - Europe MUST re-arm and become capable of defending itself and Ukraine without USA's help as previously was a given. But of course that opens the door to all the pain that comes of putting militarization ahead of people, while raising Putin's threat hackles and providing the machinery that could go terribly wrong in the perfect storm of awful that could easily arise.

I don't think humans are headed for more peace. I just really don't.

What Trump fails to realize - and yes, that is a very long list - is that US defending Europe has always been out of self-interest. And I'm not trying to say that there is anything wrong with that. It took a while in WW1, and an attack on Pearl Harbor in WW2, but the US eventually understood, reluctantly, that they had to be there. Not much has changed. My guess is that China is looking hungrily at Taiwan now.

I can’t see how it can happen unless the (republican) congress grows a pair and overtly blocks his abuse of authority over areas formerly controlled by them nominally and in practically by a class of professionals expert in highly specific fields.

people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress
worn by grotesques and monsters
as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.

Fascism arrives as your friend.
It will restore your honour,
make you feel proud,
protect your house,
give you a job,
clean up the neighbourhood,
remind you of how great you once were,
clear out the venal and the corrupt,
remove anything you feel is unlike you...

It doesn't walk in saying,
"Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."
