spreading the good news is the job of every Christian, from what I can gather from the bible.

that is evangelistic. Methodists are pretty mainstream, and we are encouraged to spread the word at every service.

when I start a thread to write a creative story, or a satire of isis and empire, or a skit, I don t see anything wrong with my adding to it as my muse dictates..., (the quality of the writing is another discussion meade)

also, in this thread I have had the whole board in opposition to my recent position on trump. not very well argued opposition, mostly just mudslinging, but that is fine, I m a big monkey, so, I have have responded and made my points too.

I awake to find 27million monkey post in addition to the usual derision of trumpsters, pointedly directed at me.

you go back a few pages to where I first started expressing trump support, and you count the number of posts and posters who went after me.

in this case I think my onslaught was justified and necessary to preserve my right to express my opinion over the objections of the mob, over the din of disapproval .

I whole heartedly thank you for your support of my right to freely express my opinion, and I don t believe that you dived to the depths of insult instead of argument too much, I don t believe that I did either. others did. but as I said, that's fine.

it would be a shame if they ignored me. a shame for them, cause I don t give two shits. . no one twisted their arm and dragged them into this thread that threatens their delicate natures. politics ain t bean bag...

this thread that I started, that i ve participated in for months, that i liven up a bit, has been lively and fun. well it was fun when trump was a joke, and no one supported him...

but people don t seem driven away by it. it s an active thread, the last two days especially.

That's precisely the point - most evangelicals don't believe that mainstream Christians are "real" Christians - they haven't been born again and all that truck. Trump attempting to claim common ground with them by saying he is Presbyterian is akin to a Jew trying to convince a group of Muslims that he really is one of them.

The largest Presbyterian church in my 500,000 population county is very evangelical. I'm guessing they have 2000 worshipers on an average Sunday. In fact, they broke from the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) about four years ago because of their belief that the big church was not evangelical enough.

I also know of an evangelical Methodist church, but it's in Arkansas.

I clearly said the two are not mutually exclusive, but you are sort of making my point - if evangelical Presbyterians feel the need to splinter off because the denomination is not evangelical enough for them, then evangelicals as a whole are certainly not going to view Presbyterianism as an evangelical movement.

And wes, simply equating evangelical with Christian, or not recognizing the nuance between evangelical and evangelistic, does not help to illuminate. There are few churches that take evangelism as seriously as the LDS, but that did little to convince evangelical Republicans that Mitt Romney was one of them, one of the key challenges he faced as a candidate. And if being evangelical is really nothing more than being Christian, then Trump was being intentionally redundant, much as if he had said, "I am homo sapiens, and I am human."
