In my various careers, starting as an apprentice in an iron foundry, through teaching, through normal community mental health work, to now working in my specialist areas, a grand total of too many jobs to remember, I have NEVER been asked to give a drug test sample.
I wouldn't take a job which asked me to do so. Not that I indulge any more, that's all long gone, but due to the sheer effrontery of it.

Like Gob, I have never been asked to undergo a drugs test.
With working for my last Minister, I couldn't even get through a day at work without him coming out near the end of the day, announcing it was "Wine O'Clock" and handing me a glass to join him with.
(Luckily, I was never driving home at that stage so I had no issues with joining him in his decided tipple.)
Then you would probably be unemployed here in the USA.
I had to "pee in the cup" for the last two jobs. And the one before this they would do random testing (aerospace industry is such a stickler).
Though I am now thinking it may have not been a good idea to have a couple of beers last night.
I don't they check for alcohol (your mileage may vary).
Heck I'm wondering if the perfectly legal dug cocktail I'm on might not give them pause.
You should have informed them of any prescriptions you were taking. Actually, they should have asked you about any meds you might be on. They asked me when I took my test.

They didn't ask I didn't tell. The way it was explained to me is that it only comes up if they have an issue.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Dear God, is it that pervasive over there? ("Land of the Free" some conditions may apply! )

Aren't these tests usually specific? They test for cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines and opiates. If it's a UDS (urine drug screen,) I'm sure that is the case., It's when they give you whole blood analysis that other stuff would be picked up. And if they ever start doing that it REALLY is time to move country.
