Last night's debate may not have been the most substantive, but it was the one I found to be by far the most enjoyable...

Somebody FINALLY kicked Trumpty's ass....

It may be too late, am I'm sure it won't have any affect on the "we wouldn't care if he shot somebody" Kool-Aid drinking Trumpanzee crowd, (Hell, they'll probably say Trump had a great night and won the debate easily...that's what they always say) but Marco Rubio bitch slapped The Donald all over the stage last night and got Mr. T to show himself as the know-nothing, all bluster hypocrite that he is...Trump's defenses and attempts at counter-punches were pathetic...

Way to go Marco!



If there's any chance at all left to stop this clown, that's the sort of approach it's going to take. Not a one shot punch at him and then back off, (which others have done) but a non-stop pummeling on a wide range of issues...

As I said he won't get the hardcore Trump Zombies, but what he did last night may have given him the opening to consolidate the anti-Trump vote in the party. (which remains a strong majority)

It's disgraceful that of all the candidates, Trump is the one allowed to break all the agreed rules. Rubio starts to make a point and Trump constantly interrupts to talk over him (or anyone else) and the moderators never tell him to shut up and wait his turn. He has a right of reply but is not forced (as he should be and as all the others are) to allow the other person to make their point before rebutting.

jIm--you really enjoyed the debate last night? I only watched a few minutes, but it seemed to me that the moderators were giving Trump carte blanche to do what he wanted, and it turned into Jerry Springer. Pretty sad IMHO.

I've been trying to figure out if there's any path left to stop the USS GOP from hitting the Trump iceberg...

If there is it looks like this:

It starts with what happened last night. Rubio has clearly emerged as the last best hope to save the GOP from the disaster of a Trump nomination. (It sure would have been a lot better if he had turned in that performance at the debate before New Hampshire, rather than the one he did; we'd probably have a very different race today.)

What Rubio did last night has given a second wind to Republicans driven nearly to complete despair (like your humble correspondent) over the prospect of an inevitable Trump nomination. It should also give him a nice bump in fundraising.

Second, it would be very helpful for Cruz to lose Texas, which would knock him out of the race. (Yes, stopping Trump involves rooting for him to win Texas. )

But even if Cruz wins in Texas, so long as he is driven down to a trailing third place everywhere else, he will begin to fade as a factor...

I'm sad to say it, because he was my top choice, but it's time for John Kasich to get out. His strong showing in New Hampshire has not gained him any significant traction anywhere else; all he's doing now is taking votes from the one guy with any chance to stop Trump...

Apparently he's not going to get out now, but hopefully after he gets a string of poor performances next week, he will see the handwriting on the wall...

The March 1st primaries are all proportional delegate awarding contests, so if Rubio can just manage consistent strong second place finishes (and maybe even win an upset somewhere) he'll garner enough delegates to remain competitive to the next round on March 15th. Then he must at least win Florida, (and if Kasich gets out, he could also win Ohio) or it's all over.
