I am disappointed that you elected another Republican Governor, but at the same time, I am glad you kicked Martha Coakley to the curb. She's one of 'those' prosecutors; the ones who turn a blind eye to injustice in favor of political gain, and I'm glad she is no longer your chief law enforcement officer, nor have you rewarded her with the governorship.

Yay for electing Maura Healy, the country's first openly gay Attorney General. Hopefully the stink on Martha didn't rub off to much on her.

As for you, you liberal bastion, oh lovely progressive Taxachusetts - when did you get so red??

Have you changed so much, or have I become unreasonably liberal???

Specious and completely untrue. I know Martha fairly well and I know lots of lawyers who work for her, and are proud of they work they have done with her. But hey, you should be proud you've bought into the republican propaganda and mysogny about a dedicated public servant.

Martha Coakley is now the answer to the trivia question:

"Name the Democratic candidate who lost two major statewide back-to-back races to Republicans in Massachusetts"

I don't know anything about Coakley's professional abilities, so I won't comment on that. But to manage to lose both of those races in a state as heavily Democratic as Massachusetts, her skills as a political candidate must really suck wind...

By all means, keep nominating her... :ok

Just like Scott Brown had become the first man to lose Senate elections to two different women! So you can keep nominating him too. :fu :fu I hear his NH property already for sale and he is carpetbagging it to Maine.

And let's be clear - Charlie Baker is the classic well educated New England republican who is socially liberal (pro choice and pro gay marriage) who has been elected in Massachusetts many times before. It's no sea change, nor any great victory for his party as he is quite the outlier nationally. He ran a decent race against a not terribly good campaigner, and he learned a lot after getting schooled by Deval Patrick four years ago. I really wanted Martha to win, but it's not like we elected Paul LePage or Rand Paul.

Plus, every other state-wide office is held by the Dems, all the Congressional seats, and 85% of the Massachusetts legislature. Good luck with that Charlie.

Yeah, go ahead and gloat about the one and only toss up senate race out of ten that the Democrats managed to win last night... :nana

But, your team did so well in the governorship races, at least you have that to crow about...

Oh wait... :P

Massachusetts also passed - by a large margin - the most generous required paid sick leave law in the country. I'm not worried about it turning at all red.

Heard about this on the radio yesterday. Here's Michelle Obama on getting out the vote.
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2014/11/04/ ... ken-156755
(Transcript courtesy Gateway Pundit.)

Martin: So can we, if we go out to the polls, can we say, we have ‘souls to the polls’ on Sunday, can we do ‘soul food after we vote’?

Obama: Absolutely, I give everyone full permission to eat some fried chicken after they vote only after—if you haven’t voted…(laughter.)

Martin: Just checking!

Obama: You make a good point because I am, I do talk about health. But I think that a good victory for Democrats on Tuesday, you know, should be rewarded with some fried chicken.

From "blackoutusa" -- (that's the url where the video that doesn't actually load, comes from) are you fucking kidding me????

Glad you both think its funny/amusing.

ETA: Wow, Meade. Nice to see the true colors of the conservatives coming through. Here's to you, too: :fu

Ah... that's supposed to be satire because "fried chicken" would seem to me to be a racist comment coming from a Russian sports judge. Not from MO though, I guess.

eta: I meant racial stereotype - not 'racist' per se.

My point -- check the underlying source before you buy into the racist claptrap. The supposed "video" for the "transcript" does not load. And its on a site called, interestingly, "blackoutusa"

Got it now? Good.

ETA: yes, its racist no matter who says it -- you should all be fucking ashamed of yourselves.

Oh Guin... despite your insulting language, you need to do some checking of your own. The link (which works just fine) inside the quote is to "bizpac...z3ICFhBpoZ". That is not a video at all. It is an article that includes the link to a radio interview - which I did listen to.

The transcript is exactly accurate and indeed does not bother to continue (as Martin and Michelle did) with the jokes about collard greens and yams.

So I guess that "yes, its racist no matter who says it" means you are accusing MO? Probably without the intercourse references, I'd hope

 :o

Apparently neither you nor LJ can read. I'll try the large print for your old eyes: ITS RACIST NO MATTER WHO SAYS IT. :fu

Sooooo..... are you saying that I'm only half right... MO is racist but intercourse remains on the table? (Dear oh lore, that's uncomfortable. Yoga mats all round! :arg )

I think you said that your "point" was.... oh.... let's see:

So how's that going for ya... the checking thing?

Nope, no video, no audio, other than the site I've posted above. And when I try to go forward clicking on links to get the "transcript" of the discussion (see all those links that say "transcript courtesy of . . ."), the last place I ended up was here (which is no transcript, just a summary):
First Lady Michelle Obama joined Roland Martin on “NewsOne Now” for an exclusive interview to discuss this year’s midterm elections and why it is important for you to get to the polls on election day.

When talking about tomorrow’s elections, Mrs. Obama said, “… the midterm elections are so important to a president’s ability to move his agenda because essentially if you think about it, midterm elections are when the country gets to determine the nature and the composition of the team that the President has to work with and that is Congress, the governors throughout the states. This is essentially the President’s team and what his team looks like will determine how successful he will be on passing his agenda.”

Mrs. Obama also made the idea of voting during midterm elections a personal matter for voters by saying, “… this is not about Barack, not about the person on the ballot, it’s about you.” She also explained the midterm elections are just as important if not more important than the presidential race because “every single race around the country is going to be tight and its neck and neck. So the margins of difference could be as small as four or five votes per precinct.”

The First Lady went on to say your vote can make the difference in your child having access to early child hood education and the difference in your state raising minimum wage, “… that’s why we’ve been pushing so hard to make sure people are paying attention to these midterms.”
Funny, not a thing about friend chicken . . .

You've got it wrong Guin, the audio of the radio interview works, and she says exactly what the transcript says she says:

http://newsone.com/3068179/newsone-now- ... tion-2014/

I just listened to it myself; I don't know why you're having a problem. The part of the interview where she's talking about the fried chicken begins at about 7:15 on the audio tape.

I what I can't find, (either from the original link or this direct one) is anything about "blackoutusa"...

I gave you the (word that you said) link to use.

Try again. The audio self loads. I listened to it all the way through. I'm listening to it again right now as I type. The transcript is exactly correct. In fact, it does not (as I wrote) go on to record the collard greens and yams joshing.

http://newsone.com/3068179/newsone-now- ... tion-2014/

Here it is again. It's up there above these words. NewsOne Now - radio for black America (their words, not mine).

The words that you quote now are indeed from the NewsOne page. You use my link to get to that page. You'll hear an ad, a "bring out the vote" message and then the full interview. Turn up that hearing aid!

ETA: your quote missed out the final sentence. It concludes like this:
The First Lady went on to say your vote can make the difference in your child having access to early child hood education and the difference in your state raising minimum wage, “… that’s why we’ve been pushing so hard to make sure people are paying attention to these midterms.”

Listen to First Lady Michelle Obama’s exclusive “NewsOne Now” interview below and make sure you get out and vote on election day
