Anyone else notice the way the price of a gallon of gas has been dropping?

Down to $3.41 a gallon at our local 76 station...

It's been at least a couple of years since I've seen it this low...

Falling oil prices put pressure on Russia, Iran and Venezuela

THE SILVER lining in the recent financial market turbulence has been the continued decline in the price of oil, which is down about 25 percent since June. In addition to creating a windfall for U.S. consumers — one analysis reckoned the savings could amount to $600 per household — the drop, if sustained, will place considerable pressure on three problematic petrostates: Russia, Iran and Venezuela. The aggressively anti-American foreign policies pursued by all three countries in recent years have been financed in large part by soaring oil revenue.

Though separated by culture and continent, the regimes of Vladimir Putin, Ali Khamenei and Nicolás Maduro have in common autocratic government and ambitions to dominate their regions. More than half of their state budgets come from petroleum exports, and their spending plans depend on high prices: $100 a barrel in the case of Russia, $120 for Venezuela and $140 for Iran, according to the Economist. Last week, benchmark Brent crude was selling for just $85 a barrel, while Venezuela’s heavy oil dropped below $80, according to the VenEconomía Web site.

$2.99 signs just went up at multiple stations here. Let's hope the overall decline in oil consumption continues and we keep on improving car performance and fuel efficiency, and also producing alternative technology vehicles. It's making a difference! Decreased consumption is good for our wallets and our planet!

Last night gas was down to $2.59 at the not-cheap station I drive by (I wasn't really looking too hard, as I won't need to fill up for a few more days). Falling gas prices, growing economy, declining unemployment, negligible inflation -- it's a good thing we voted in the GOP on Tuesday, because the Democrats had really screwed things up!

Most people would know that if you are a producer, and the United States is the largest oil producer in the world, falling prices are not good.

And most people would know that if prices fall then consumption will go up which is harmful for the environment and induces people to buy low-mpg cars which make them more vulnerable to later price increases.

Most people could understand that decreasing the price of water in a drought will have disastrous consequences just as reducing the price of fossil fuels when we are killing ourselves with CO2 production is disastrous.

Most people would know that the price of energy effects fundamentally the cost of the production and delivery of every single tangible good and service...

Most people would know that the lower this cost is, the stronger and more competitive an industrial economy will be...

Most people would know that the lower this cost is the more jobs will be created, the more the GDP will grow, and the more taxpaying workers there will be to help reduce the deficit...(Most people would probably have noticed the proof of this by looking at the US economic numbers)

Most people would know that more taxpayers, rather than higher taxes, is the way meaningful revenue is obtained. (Most people who understand basic math, anyway)

Most people would know that high gas prices are a form of regressive tax, (like most inflation) effecting the working poor disproportionately...

Most people would know that less money flowing into the coffers of rogue states like Iran and Russia is a good thing...

Those are a few of the things that most people would know...

Yes, but rubato's plan is to fill his tank with hive urine. He's heard that engines run better on BP. Actually this is just a bit of apis taking.

Left right or center, anybody who wants to argue that lower energy costs are a bad thing for the US, its economy, its people, or its security, needs some very basic lessons in economics, macro and micro...

There is, of course, another possibility: as long as consumption deceases and it does not harm them, they do not care how much it harms others. In other words: pure and undiluted evil.

Filled up yesterday at $2.56/gal, less than 40 bucks total. Not enough of a savings to go out to dinner, but enough to buy a couple racks of lamb (which has dropped nearly 40% in price recently -- now selling at $7.99/lb, a price I haven't seen for over three years).

Dinner's at 7, but tonight we're having the eggplant parm I made yesterday. Probably won't get to the lamb til Friday. Bring a Shiraz -- it's Aussie lamb.

After my .30/gallon grocery store discount - $2.69. I filled up the Jeep for less than $30!!

I got one of those, only mine is 0.50/gallon discount (we buy a lot of groceries)

Gotta love the discounts. Saw an off-brand station that advertised $2.99/gallon.
