future defense challenges

Post by liberty »

A while back I read an article of an analyze of future defense challenges face by the US and the West. I can’t remember the names of the think tanks involved but the conclusion was not reassuring. I was not surprised, it confirmed things I intuitively suspected. Our adversaries are growing stronger, we are becoming weaker and we need much a larger military than we can afford. Both China and Russia are making territorial claims on the lands of other nations. China is claiming Philippine islands based on hundreds of years old naval charts. I would be willing to let the Chinese take Vietnam; it would be a sort of poetic justice for our tortured and murdered POWs, but I doubt it would stop there.

You know this is not the first time, about 700 B.C. the Spartans face a similar situation. They settle on a solution and it work for a while, nothing last forever. I am not saying we should do the same thing the Spartans did, but we could be more creative in out thinking.

Soon, I’ll post my farewell message. The end is starting to get close. There are many misconceptions about me, and before I go, to live with my ancestors on the steppes, I want to set the record straight.

Yeah, The Ohio State trashed the Spartans last time out so their system isn't worth spit. Did you borrow rube's history book? The Chinese were long-time invaders of what is now Vietnam and got their collective arses kicked for centuries. Having them invade and kill thousands of civilians is only a disservice to the memory of USian servicepersons and their families.

Thanks for the precise and informative link, description and memory of the article confirming things you intuitively suspected. :ok

Well general enjoy your sarcasm, the young like you can afford to be sarcastic, but your day is coming you will be old someday. :nana Hey, I am sorry general but that is all I can remember. I tried to look it up, but I have a lack of time and I am not one of the great research masters like some on this forum. I didn’t read the original report what I read was a critique in time magazine. I intended to look up the original article, but never got around to it. I was kind of hoping one of the exceptional researcher we have her would post it. However, the Time article did appear to agree with the conclusion of the original article and I think most here would not consider Time Magazine a bunch of right wing reactionary kooks. So, I think imperialism is not dead it is merely taking a rest and the great Russian and Chinese empires of the later part of this century should bare witness to that. Do you think God will help us maintain our independence from such empires; why should he?

It's irrelevant to God.

Same could be said about Ohio State in the past.
