Just as the Palestinians long ago decided that they could out-breed the Israeli's, Terrible Ted Kennedy long ago realized that by opening the floodgates to the third world - a population that would be looking for generations to suckle at the Government's teats - his beloved party would be forever enshrined to rule this country.

In every census from 1860 to 1920 the percentage of the U.S. population who were immigrants from elsewhere exceeded the percentage of such people here in 2010.

And the vast majority of those immigrants became and begat productive and patriotic U.S. citizens. Moreover, as each succeeding generation improved their lot, they begat smaller and smaller families--a well-known and universally-accepted demographic phenomenon. (Personal example: my mother's German immigrant father had 13 children and my father's Italian immigrant father had 9 children; my own parents had 4 children; my wife and I have 2 daughters; they're both in their 30s, married, and--so far--childless.)

As for the political implications, it only makes sense that immigrants would favor the party that welcomes them and not the party that demonizes and rejects them--the party that insists that almost all further expansion of wealth should go to those who already have it all.

Engineers, computer specialists, & other scientists are going back to their home countries by the thousands, unable to get an H1-A, while Democrats welcome the wretched bastards whom they know will be dependent on Government for generations, and try various stratagems to get eventual citizenship for the 20+ million illegals who currently reside here - at least half of whom are ALREADY on welfare.

What percentage of that 40 million in 2010 do you suppose have college degrees? By what thought process do you suppose that their children will be attending college in the same proportion as previous generations of immigrants from Europe, India, China, Vietnam, etc?

Another theme we've seen: that illegal immigrants are freeloaders taking advantage of federal welfare programs.

Those types of charges are often repeated in anonymous chain e-mails, on blogs and Facebook.

When PolitiFact researched the numbers, though, we found the claim ridiculously false and rated it Pants on Fire. About 46.4 million people receive food stamps, so 43 percent of that number would be just under 20 million. That significantly exceeds estimates for how many illegal immigrants are in the country. The Pew Hispanic Center put the number at 11.2 million in 2010.

On top of that, most social welfare programs bar illegal immigrants from receiving benefits and require proof of immigration status. That includes food stamps, as well as cash welfare assistance, Medicaid, and even the new health care law.

It's true that some children of illegal immigrants qualify for benefits if they were born in the United States and are citizens. (Critics derisively call them "anchor babies.") But there aren't nearly enough of those types of children -- an estimated 4 million -- to account for 43 percent of food stamp recipients.

Another claim is that illegal immigrants dominate public housing run by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department, or HUD. "Nearly 60 percent of all occupants of HUD properties in the U.S. are illegals," the Facebook post said.

That statement too earned a Pants on Fire, because it would require half of all illegal immigrants in the country to live in that housing. And again, HUD requires proof of legal status.

Sue--Well, there is probably one benefit illegal aliens (at least their children)may get, free lunch in schools. I do not think there is any legal status applied to it. And charity emergency care in hospitals. But such are nowhere near being "on welfare".

Now if we are looking at legal immigrants, many may receive government benefits initially (especially those getting asylum or refugee status); and of course (as your post said) children if illegal aliens born here (otherwise known as US Citizens) can receive the same benefits any other citizen can 9and citizens cannot, by definition, be illegal aliens). But illegal aliens get no government provided benefits other than those above so far as I know.

A new nationwide study on the fiscal implications of illegal immigration concludes that millions of undocumented immigrants are paying billions of dollar in taxes into state and local coffers, and that substantially more would be generated if President Obama prevails in imposing a new executive order protecting many of those workers from deportation.

The 50-state analysis by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy released on Thursday found that roughly 8.1 million of 11.4 million undocumented immigrants who work paid more than $11.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2012, even while they were living illegally in the country.

The group’s analysis estimated that illegal immigrants’ combined nationwide state and local tax contributions would increase by $845 million under full implementation of Obama’s 2012 and 2014 executive actions and by $2.2 billion under comprehensive immigration reform.

Tax contributions from illegal immigrants ranged from less than $3.2 million in Montana with an estimated undocumented population of 6,000 to more than $3.2 billion in California with more than 3.1 million illegal immigrants, according to the study.

“The numbers alone make a compelling case for reform,” said Matthew Gardner, executive director of ITEP. “This analysis shows that undocumented immigrants already are paying billions in taxes to state and local governments, and if they are allowed to work in the country legally, their state and local tax contributions would considerably increase.”

And that's just state and local taxes. To the extent that federal income, social security and Medicare taxes are being collected and paid by employers, they are paying into programs that illegal immigrants will never be able to use.
