I was just watching an infomercial selling dvds of the celebrity roasts and I was struck by the ease and good spirits of the people laughing at themselves and each other. I saw no racism, just people increasing understanding of each other and themselves thru humor.

PC is bad.

funny is good

cutting off peoples heads is wrong

vote john Kasich!!!!!!!!!!!

Wes, if you like the old Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts, I suggest you check out Youtube...

You'll find a lot of classic bits there...

Foster Brooks' drunk routine is considered very UnPC nowadays, but his roast of Don Rickles was absolutely hilarious:

And this one with Peter Falk (as Lt. Columbo) was posted back when Falk died, but you may not have seen it and it's worth posting again:

There are many more great roast scenes there; Jack Benny, Groucho Marx, Jackie Gleason, Jimmy Stewart, and on and on...

(But when you start checking them out I suggest you have at least an hour set aside, because you're going to want go on from the next to the next to the next....)

Why is this in "politics"? I'd try to move it, but the last time I did that I deleted the thread. I may still try to move it. Wes, pick your game up mate.

it is in politics because it speaks of political correctness....

"Political correctness" has nothing to do with politics wes.

agree with econo, disagree with gob.

political correctness inhibits honest and open discussion and debate and has EVERYTHING to do with politics and political discourse.

I think you need to read up on the meanings of "politic". This thread is about politics in the sense of governance. While government may at times be involved in issues of political correctness, it is not "political" because a government is involved.

Maybe one needs to be English (or at least understand the language) to know.

Wes, if this thread were an academic discussion about Political Correctness, and its ideological motivations, you'd be on a lot stronger ground...I would be inclined to agree that it would be appropriate for the "Politics" forum room...

But this seems to me to be more a thread about The Dean Martin Roasts, (the title "dean martin celebrity roasts...." being kind of a dead giveaway in that regard) and only tangentially about political correctness, (that's certainly the way I took it, as evidenced by my follow up posts)

As such, this thread would have been probably better placed in the "Arts" room.

Or laffs... I don't think there's much "art" involved

Are you kidding? The Dean Martin Roasts were classic performing arts involving some of the greatest comedic talents of the 20th century...

(And admittedly a few of the not-so-greatest too...)

is it really that big of a deal?

I did hope to start a discussion of PC, it was mentioned in my OP.

but please, let us continue with the all important issue of proper placement of threads into their proper topic index place, and how overlap in said threads, between said topic index places , negatively effects the board.

I'm not sure your response belongs in this thread. And it's "affects"

It's about respect and consideration for your fellow board/community members. Like using quotes appropriately, or including correctly working links.

ok, we have one vote for Politics, one for Laffs, one for Arts.

That wasn't my point at all, wesw, and that's not even CLOSE to what I said.

You're complaining about the feedback you're getting. I'm simply trying to help you understand. I actually don't give an eff where this is posted, since it doesn't interest me. But it obviously does others.

well, I m not really complaining , more bemused, and amused. I put it in politics because that was where I thought that it belonged. it turns out that that decision was not politically correct here. which makes my point, I think.

what about workplace politics? is there a special spot for that in case I decide to post about them?

i just don t see the big whoop in the whole thing...

...but on the bright side we are talking about PC.....
