Trump, Carson tied for lead in new Iowa poll

They have a combined zero years of experience in elective office, but Donald Trump and Ben Carson are now way out in front in the critical early voting state of Iowa, according to a poll out Monday.

A Monmouth University poll of likely Iowa GOP caucusgoers found the billionaire real estate developer and retired pediatric neurosurgeon each with 23% support. Coming in third with 10%: Carly Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, who also has never held public office.

Trump has led Iowa in most polls released over the past month, as he has nationally, so perhaps most notable is the steady surge of Carson, who was also a close second to Trump in a Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa poll released over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the GOP front-runner in Iowa for much of the year, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, has slipped significantly. He was the choice of 7% of Iowa Republicans in the latest Monmouth poll, down from 22% the month before.

“These results mark a significant shake-up in the leaderboard from Monmouth’s Iowa poll taken before the first debate,” Patrick Murray, the director of the university’s polling institute, said in a release. “Carson and, to a lesser extent, Fiorina have surged, while Walker has faded into the background.”

Rounding out the field are: Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 9%, former Florida governor Jeb Bush at 5%, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 4% and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 3%.

So the three completely unqualified candidates are now drawing 53% support between them...

While the three candidates most likely to be able to actually win the general election pull a combined 13% total...

The obvious reason for that is that people have lost all faith in "real" politicians and figure it can't get any worse.

President Trump will make America strong again!!

Kick the politicians out of Washington! Replace them with people who have no experience or knowledge of the political process!!

I don t know why you guys think that professional politicians are the only ones qualified to make policy and govern.

citizen statesmen were the foundation of our democracy.

anyone with intelligence and leadership skills can gather info, consult experts, hear the people, and make good decisions.

I think jim is just mad because I saw carson s appeal waaay ahead of the curve.

Kasich is still my choice but he had better get on his horse, be bold, be honest, and speak truth to power.
he must be blunt and honest. he must be willing to unite us by calling out those who don t see America as their country. he must invoke doctor king, who is a hero to my generation, he must speak of doctor king s love of the founding documents, and tell people about the "dream" and the "promissory note". al Sharpton must be called out.

watch out for "trump democrats", they will soon make their presence known if trump keeps succeeding.

jim, the establishment sucks. embrace change.

I think that Kasich is that change, but I will support carson and trump in their effort to shake up a failing system of govt.

Kasich has literally never done anything EXCEPT be an establishment politician. Oh right, in between Congress and Ohio governor he was a Faux News host and somehow a managing director at Lehman Brothers -- you remember, the Wall Street firm whose bankruptcy triggered the economic collapse of 2008? (Oh, and he walked away from the bankruptcy with a $480k bonus?????)

Correction - men who had years, if not decades, of experience in their respective colonial governments before trying their hand at federal politics were the foundation of your democracy. No one fell off their turnip truck and right into the meeting where the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution were signed.

Trump, with his "outsider", "Make America Great Again" theme is trying to do a re-run of Mr. Reagan's 1980 campaign...

The difference of course is that while Mr. Reagan was technically a "Washington outsider" (though he had many Washington "insiders" in his circle of advisers) he was also a two term Governor of California, (a state which if it had been a country at the time, would have had the 6th largest GDP in the world...it has since dropped to 8th or 9th...)

NOT a self absorbed billionaire real estate mogul and reality show host with no political credentials whatsoever...

If Ronald Reagan were in this race, he'd be down in the 4% range in Iowa today, based on the fact that he would be qualified...

Being qualified appears to be a disqualifier...

By logical extrapolation, if we could find a candidate who can't even read or write, they'd go to the top of the Iowa poll...
