It's about those who died (I knew more than one personally and I honor all)
. There are people still dieing from what happened that day. First reponders are getting sick and dieing at a large rate. Honor them also.

[Edited because Guin is right as usual and I don't need to be mean, especially today.]

On this always brutally painful and sad day, when the world changed forever, think about taking 5 minutes out of your day to do something good for someone else. Love and peace can always trump hate and evil.

Love and peace can always trump hate and evil.
Well...
It wasn't "love and peace" that triumphed over "hate and evil" in WWII...

Did I miss something so deep and motivating that it required a mass deletion?

Eventually it was; the Marshall Plan did as much to earn the peace, and even more to keep the peace, than military action.

the Marshall Plan did as much to earn the peace,
Really...
How would The Marshall Plan have worked without the Normandy Invasion?
The Marshall Plan was a wise investment to stabilize Western Europe and draw it firmly into an alliance with the US so we could effectively confront the remaining bastion of "hate and evil", the Soviet Union, (which also wasn't defeated by "peace and love" but through resolute determination and military confrontation) but it had absolutely
nothing to do with defeating Nazism...

Well now, LJ. Hitler would have welcomed the Marshal plan with open arms - not with loaded ones. He'd have accepted all the loans and goods and free shipping. Peace would have prevailed on the western front. Not so sure that Joe Stalin would have been amenable to stopping but perhaps Germany could have turned all its resources, augmented by US money and materiel, to defeat the Soviets. As for North Africa.... limbo maybe?

"Peace and love" is only an effective strategy when the perpetrators of the "hate and evil" have a conscience...
(Gandhi once said that he had "a secret weapon in the conscience of the British people"...)
If the enemy has no conscience and no scruples, "peace and love" is only going to get you either enslaved or killed...
We sure as hell ain't going to defeat ISIS with "peace and love"...

And if there is no peace and love, combat will get you either an endless war or eventually kill everyone.
Gandhi also suggested that peace and love will always triumph, and even suggested that it (along with passive resistance) could be used against Hitler (agreeing it would cause a lot of heartache and pain, but saying war does that as well).
