I disagree with the notion that the local Muslims shouldn't have gone forward with meetings to discuss a doubtless long-planned building project, just because insane extremists perpetrated terrorism in France - or Beirut, or Turkey, or Mali, or anywhere else - it's happening all the time across the globe.
Should good Muslims never do anything positive in their communities, because a few terrible Muslim extremists are committing crimes in the 'name' of the same religion?
This is exactly the kind of bigotry that we must all stand against, IMHO. I am frankly physically sickened by Trump's call for a Muslim 'registry', and I fear for what might happen in this country if good people say nothing.

I think some caution may be needed. The overwhelming majority of USians are in favour of restricting immigration - in fear of terrorism - and happy to see the Representatives (both R and D) voting against Obama's come-one-and-all policy.
I'm not saying it's correct. Just that to restrict concern (even over-concern) to Republicans is rather to miss the boat. If the Dems don't get onside, there is a risk of losing voters. Granted, given the outlandish oafishness of some Rep candidates, that concern may swiftly evaporate

Overwhelming majority, I'm not so sure. Angry and vocal group, definitely. Republican led, absolutely.
I'm thinking my move to Paris may be sooner than I thought. I'd rather be there with real security risks and open minds and hearts, then safe over here with the haters and the fear-mongers.

well guin, if you look at the overwhelming majority of governorships and statehouses in repub hands, and you see both houses of congress in repub hands, with the majorities on the rise....
do you really think you are safe from terrorism here? you are not. do you know how many ISIS members have been caught, here, in the last year? do you know the details of the 4th of july plot that was foiled here? they haven t released much info and it has been little reported, but it was serious and some info is available. don t want to panic the poor stupid masses, you know? they can t handle the truth.... how about all the middle easterners that have been caught at the southern border this year? its a lot.
there are plenty off haters and fearmongers in paris too. mostly muslim brotherhood types, and they will do worse things to you than any republican will..., well most repubs anyway, Tom Delay and his ilk are pretty scary.....
