Cruz tries to pry the 'crazy' vote from Trumpy

Post by rubato »

Remember folks, this is the cream of the Republican crop! The best of the best in their field!

Cruz: ‘The Overwhelming Majority of Violent Criminals Are Democrats’

Ted Cruz pushed back against the media coverage of the Planned Parenthood shooting today and made a pretty strong assertion about which party most violent criminals belong to.

Radio host Hugh Hewitt told Cruz that, given how some in the media have attempted to connect pro-life rhetoric to the shooting, he has never encountered a pro-life individual who would condone violence.

Cruz agreed and said whenever tragedy strikes, the media’s “salivating” and “hoping desperately that the murderer happens to be a Republican.”

Oh, get over it. It's a code word for "black"

The statistics show that (in proportion to their number in the population) the majority of violent crime is by blacks against blacks. And in proportion, blacks overwhelmingly vote democrat. Therefore, by one measure the overwhelming majority of violent criminals are black.

These things are true but not because the people are black but because they are, overwhelmingly, poor and without hope or the means to escape what "being black" means in this society. Significant numbers of poor people prey upon each other, regardless of race, creed, color or ethnicity. Poor people vote for where they do see some hope - and the democrats pander to that for all they are worth, promising the moon and sixpence to all.

Cruz is not an idiot but he is a useless option for 2016. What worries me and should worry everyone is the degree to which the leaders in this Republican race are in their turn pandering to some of the lowest prejudices in the USA. It will guarantee a democrat victory in 2016 - and perhaps already has. It contributes to the divisiveness that we see here - with the reaction being as mean-spirited and the discourse as vindictive as that which it condemns

You epitomize "the reaction being as mean-spirited and the discourse as vindictive as that which it condemns".

Anything to contribute on substance?

I think it was supposed to be satirical... but as a matter of interest, do you have evidence that an insignificant number of illegal aliens vote?

In the absence so far of any evidence at all, I would think that the burden of proof is on those making the accusation.

Ah, Econo, I was just making fun of rubato. He doubts there is evidence of significant numbers.... so I suppose that to mean he's not doubting that there are insignificant numbers.... and I'm pretty sure wesw was delivering "humor"

Geesus, not this again... Image

Even though there is scads of evidence, (much of which I have posted on this board over and over and over again) that many thousands (if not millions ) of aliens, both legal residents and illegals, (neither of which obviously are legally entitled to vote in US elections) are registered to vote. Most Democrats and Liberals want to play "let's pretend" and disingenuously assert that this doesn't mean that any of them are actually voting...

I guess they're all registering just for shits and giggles...

A rational objective assumption of course would be that these folks who have registered illegally vote in at least the same percentages as the general public.

Now why do you suppose it is that the Democrats so steadfastly maintain with a straight face, this wildly improbable position? Because the illegally registered are voting overwhelmingly Republican? (Yeah right...if that were the case, they'd be marching in the streets, and Obama's Justice department would have this as a top priority rather than completely denying and ignoring the problem , as is currently the case...)

No, the reason for their nonsensical counter-intuitive position is really quite simple....

People who are registered to vote who are not legally qualified to do so, vote overwhelmingly Democratic; legally unqualified voters represent a very important and reliable voting block for the Democratic Party, and they don't want to lose those votes...

Period; end of story....

Jim--you're assuming that the illegal voters among the immigrants will vote republicans, but many polls have shown that Hispanic voters (who would comprise many of this group) generally vote in favor of family values and other traditional republican positions; indeed, many are quite conservative, especially in social issues. I think the republicans are making big inroads to court hispanic voters, and they would get a big portion of this vote.

So why do republicans complain but it--IMHO it is because it is not all that significant and because the anti-immigrant rhetoric stirs up their base and help court Reagan democrats concerned about the loss of jobs and opportunities the immigrants supposedly bring with them.

Big RR, seems to me the republicans are shooting themselves in the foot. Their far-right anti-immigrant rhetoric is losing them the Hispanic vote (betcha betcha).

I completely agree on that one...

I wish to hell Boener had just put the Senate passed bi-partisan Immigration Reform Bill on the House floor where it would have passed, and we'd have this issue in the rear view mirror...

Then we could get on to appealing to Hispanic voters on the type of issues that Big RR mentions. (additionally many Latinos are small business owners; another natural constituency for the GOP)

The coarse nativism that some of the Republican candidates are employing is incredibly short sighted; we are never going to win another national election if we are locked in to 20% or less of the Latino vote. And there's no reason this should be the case; George W. Bush got 45%, and nobody ever accused him of being a raving Liberal...

By contrast in the latest poll I saw, Trumpty had a 11% approval rating among Latinos...

Anybody who thinks we can win back the Presidency with 11% of the Latino vote can go stand in that drug testing line I mentioned earlier...

Well that's the dilemma; anti-immigrant talk (especially of the over the top sort as by Trump and others) probably does lose them votes; but many Hispanics are fairly conservative socially and might well align with the repubs if this were toned down. I'm sure there is a conscious choice being made somewhere to see if they can attract more disaffected white dems than they will lose among the Hispanics by engaging in such rhetoric.
