EPA has only once banned a pesticide because of ecological (non-human health) effects. Once. And you may thank yours truly for pushing and advocating and making that happen.

Because pesticides are actually necessary in some cases (although the amount and scale is clearly debatable), they are required to be regulated based on balancing the risks (toxicity x exposure) against the benefits (typically economic impact to the user). It makes for a difficult calculation since the impact of no use is incredibly difficult to quantify.

There has been no cover-up. I know all the pesticide folks. Colony collapse has not been widely studied until recently, and EPA has been overly focused on the food supply (per Congress and its last revisions to FIFRA - the federal insecticide, fungicide, and rodenticide act).

Sorry, since DDT. Although in fact, DDT was only banned by EPA because of a court order not because of its regulatory responsibilities (and the process was started first by President Kennedy and the Science Advisory Committee before EPA even existed).

maybe it hasn t been widely studied, but it was studied and blamed on these same pesticides 20 yrs ago, by a narrow group of folks who didn t give a shit about the pesticide folks or their blood money
