More affluent Democrats broke strongly in Hillary Clinton’s favor, with a majority of those in households making more than $100,000 a year supporting her over Senator Bernie Sanders, according to polls of those entering caucus sites conducted by Edison Research. Among those making under $50,000 annually, Mr. Sanders pulled in a majority of supporters.
Those without a college education supported Mrs. Clinton by a wide margin; those who had attended some college but had not earned a four-year degree were more likely to back Mr. Sanders. Those with postgraduate educations were more likely to support Mrs. Clinton.
Mr. Sanders won the support of a majority of liberals, while Mrs. Clinton had the support of moderates and conservatives by a much wider margin. Democrats who described themselves as liberals make up about two-thirds of those participating in the caucuses.

... "
Is that different from saying that more 50-year olds (later in their careers and with higher incomes) favor Clinton and more 30 year olds (who have just started their careers) favor Bernie?

Perhaps so, perhaps not. I saw other analysis showing that Sanders had failed to excite as much interest in younger voters as Obama had done eight years ago, despite a record poll. He of course took the largest bite of those who did show up.
It does make sense that Clinton's appeal is to the older/wealthier demographic since she fits both - although in a higher league when it comes to wealth, of course. She is corporate America, after all and the most reassuring to the haves. Your thought that Bernie is likely to force her more left seems most likely to be validated over the next few weeks.
Bernie must find a way to finesse the knee-jerk black/women vote into his corner, since he's unlikely to get the moneybags to support him. I hastily add that not all blacks or women automatically vote for Hillary because of race and/or gender. Not all.

Those voters are now 8 years older and in a new "demographic".failed to excite as much interest in younger voters as Obama had done eight years ago,
Great grandpa Bernie may not appeal to the under 50, 40, 30, 25 crowd.
Re: Iowa - the rich and conservative vote Hillary
I also think the difference is that many thought 8 years ago that Obama could get the nomination, and that energized some; few believe Bernie can get it absent a major upset.

The most delightful thing I have noticed this morning, as I have had the cable news channels on in the background while I have been working, is the sudden end of All-Trump-All-The-Time...
I've seen Cruz, Rubio, Slick Hillie, Comrade Sanders, even Jeb and Christie...
But not even one minute of that toxic vulgarian who has so dominated every news cycle for months...
Dear God, could it finally be over?

He'll be back next week for a yooge win in New Hampshire.
Oh and BTW also too and in addition: Trump is already on the Twatter twitting about how he was such a longshot in Iowa that second-place loser is really winning, how he coulda won if had spent more munnies like Cruz and Rubio, but nobody loves him for spending his own dough and now it's "not worth it," and also The Media is totally unfair to him, probably because they have totally refused to cover his campaign and then laughed about how he was a LOSING LOSER when he LOST in Iowa, like a LOSER.

Just to amplify Sue's line about munny hunny. It was the damn VOTERS who didn't VOTE the right way, after all!'I don't believe I have been given any credit by the voters for self-funding my campaign, the only one. I will keep doing, but not worth it!' Trump tweeted.

Nothing would make me happier than for Trumpty to take his bat and his ball and go home...I will keep doing, but not worth it!' Trump tweeted.
"Donald, you're better than this...the American people are unworthy of your awesomeness...
Climb into your jet and fly back to your penthouse with adoring trophy wife number 3....
We don't deserve you...."
