They would be drummed out of the Republican Party of today.

Someone should use that "rather than talking about putting up a fence..." line of Reagan's in a campaign ad if Trump becomes the nominee - my bet is that he would do to Ronald Reagan what he hasn't managed to do to David Duke - disavow him in a heartbeat.

Reagan would never get a nomination from the Republican party today. He would be derided as a liberal and shouted off the stage.

If the choice was Reagan vs any of the Republican field with the possible exception of Kasich I might vote for him, if I could stop vomiting long enough.

Supported Pinochet (torture, mass murder, rape), Arms to Iran, Arms and biological weapons to Iraq, Savimbi (rapist and mass murderer), D'Aubuisson (murderer), &c &c.

Reagan's main problem was the same as every other Republican since Ike: He was wedded to lower taxes (and hence, higher deficits, if not in the "budget", then in reality).

That he was a senile old man before he took the oath of office and his main adviser was his wife who took her cues from an astrologer.
He flourished via his old skills from Hollywood. He was really great at reading a script somebody handed him.
