This is the second call I've been invited to get on since I signed up with the group. (The first was last Sunday, I was out and couldn't make it.)
I think I'll dial in for this one...
I've seen the person who got the ball rolling on this, Kendal Unruh, interviewed several times (she's a delegate and rules committee member) and I've been very impressed with her intelligence, articulateness and command of the details of the convention rules.
They began with a prayer, (that didn't bother me at all; I knew that a lot of the folks involved in this come from the Evangelical Wing of the party... if there was ever was an "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation this is it...plus this effort can probably use all the prayers it can get...)
Bill Kristol spoke, David French spoke...
Kendal Unruh insists that she'll be able to get the 28 votes on the Rules Committee needed to bring a Minority Report to the floor for a vote...
Pundits in the media frequently say that the weakness behind this is the fact that those who have come together on it, "have no candidate"....
That is in fact the strength behind this effort...
Social/Religious Conservatives, Libertarian Conservatives, Economic Conservatives, Pragmatic National Defense/National Security type Conservatives...
We are all united behind a common theme...
STOP DONALD TRUMP...
Once that's achieved, we can sort out what happens next...

I hope the opposite.
Apparently Sue is okay with the current 20-25% chance that Trump will win the election (see the odds makers and 538 probability). But then maybe she is just ribbing her friend, in a good-natured sort of way.
You're seriously going to take steps to disenfranchise the republican primary voters -- your core, your base -- who came out and cast a majority of their votes for the Trumpanzee? Many of u get how loathsome he is, but by taking that step, aren't you further destroying your party?

Guin, people will sometimes make mistakes — like supporting a blathering demagogue who is full of sound bites and showmanship but little else. However, once they realize they've made a mistake, intelligent persons will admit it and attempt to rectify their error. So it's better the Republicans do whatever it takes to deny Trump the nomination — even if it means going against "the will of the people" (as expressed three or more months ago) — rather than let the whole party, like so many lemmings, blindly follow him over the cliff that he is headed for. -"BB"-
Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
" However, once they realize they've made a mistake, intelligent persons will admit it" Unfortunately, in national elections here in the USofA the chance to rectify the error is a long way off. It is a truism that trial lawyers want dumb juries they think they can control. People running election campaigns want dumb voters they think they can control.. There is very little appeal to the intelligent. That is quickly labeled 'elitist' and is something horrible like a STD. Anybody else remember the string of posts on the other board during the presidency of Bush 43 that included the tagline 'and then they voted'?
There seems to be a significant group of voters that are so fed up with what they see as present day American contrasted with what they fondly believe was the past, that they strongly want to vote for a candidate who will self-destruct or preferably, like the Sampson of the fundamentalist bible, tear down the whole temple as an act of suicide.
That is my only way to understand how Dr. James Dobson of 'Focus on the Family' can endorse Trump for Trump's theology and morality.
who came out and cast a majority of their votes for the Trumpanzee?
He did not get a majority of the primary vote...
He only got 37% prior to the NY primary, and then even after everybody else dropped out, he still only finished with 42% overall...
by taking that step, aren't you further destroying your party
Compared to nominating this POS?
No.
Enough so that he had a majority of the delegates needed for the nomination. By your party's rules, he is the guy, and you're stuck with him. Changing the rules now, not selecting him, is only going to do more damage, not less.
Let him get shellacked by HRC and he goes away (as much as he can go away).

Guin, I must say that I am trulytouched by your concern for the well being of the Republican Party...
It brings a tear to my eye...
I'm sure the prospect of having the one person that Hillary Clinton is pretty much guaranteed to be able to beat removed as the nominee doesn't even enter in to your calculus...

No no no no no! I want to see a rules fight at the convention! Let them bring a minority report to the floor and make the delegates vote to either make the GOP primaries a meaningless charade or declare their undying love for The Donald! Wow, talk about arranging a circular firing squad!
I do feel a bit sad for you, truly. But I also think its your party's mess, they have completely shit the bed on this one by not doing anything sooner (and also he is the hell that hath been wrought on the Rs for kowtowing to the Tea Partyists for so long), and taking the vote out of the hands of the voter is a dangerous precedent that will have implications lasting far longer than a Trump nomination.
As you know, I believe HRC could have beaten any of the clowns in your race (and mostly Kasich was the one to give her the strongest challenge).
