Ah yes! One of the great ironies of military history, that the Battle of New Orleans happened after the disputing parties had agreed to end hostilities.

A pointless victory to end a pointless war.
The most celebrated "victory" of that war (from the U.S. perspective) took place after the peace was signed.
And then, of course, there was the matter of waging a war only to negotiate a status quo ante peace.
Ironically it was the War of 1812 that doomed any hope that the United States had of acquiring the remaining British North American colonies, because the war caused the political developments of the next half century to be oriented towards avoiding annexation by the United States.
