I just saw this suggestion from GWB's AG Mukasey on CNN. You have to admit there is a certain genius to it. Trump pardons HRC for whatever e-mail misdemeanors she may or may not have committed. No investigation; from Trump's pov no risk of an investigation confirming that there is nothing there; and he gets to occupy the moral high ground. If Trump has one talent it is the ability to manipulate public opinion with symbolism. This may well happen.

First of all, some nit-picking.  Isn't a pardon granted *AFTER* someone is convicted of a crime?  In this case, all we have are allegations; no formal court case, no determination of guilt or innocence, and most importantly, no sentence of punishment.  I think what we are talking about here is a grant of general amnesty and not a pardon per se.

However, whatever you want to call it ... Should it happen, maybe Hillary should refuse Trump's munificence and *DEMAND* an investigation.

Nixon was pardoned with a blank check that extended into the future That was very bad public relations for Ford, but it was legal. That is why so many pardons are issued in the last days of a presidency, when any blow-back doesn't matter. Ford made the mistake of doing it early--for reasons similar to what is suggested above.

See the long post in the thread Eastasia war. All the stuff here is beside the point in the new political reality in America.
