As We Prepare For The Inauguration Of A No-Class President

We should give our best wishes to a high-class former President...

And a high-class former First Lady...

Bushes' spokesman: George H.W., Barbara 'both on the upswing'

(CNN)Former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush are "both on the upswing," Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said Thursday, adding, "they may not be out of the woods yet, but we can see the edge of the forest."

McGrath said Barbara Bush continues to be treated for her bronchitis with antibiotics, and she said she feels "a thousand percent better today."

Their son Neil Bush has been over to visit. No other family members are flying in because they feel everything is stable and moving in the right direction.

Former President George W. Bush is still going to the inauguration, McGrath said.

The 92-year-old former President was admitted to the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital to address "an acute respiratory problem stemming from pneumonia. Doctors performed a procedure to protect and clear his airway that required sedation," McGrath said in an earlier statement.

Bush sent a letter to the President-elect on January 10, apologizing for missing the ceremony and saying that he and Barbara "wish you the very best as you begin this incredible journey of leading our great country."

"My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara," Bush wrote, in a letter first reported by ABC News. "So I guess we're stuck in Texas."

I'm glad they're both on the mend - it's very convenient timing so that they have a great excuse to ditch the 'festivities', I couldn't help thinking.

Is Dubya attending?

Yes, Dubya is attending.

Obviously Bush Sr. is in bad health. Wouldn't it be something if he "threw a seven" tomorrow? Trump would never forgive him for stealing his thunder.

Yes, he's 92, she's 91...

How cunning of them to avoid going to Trump's inaugural by feigning ill health...

Getting hospitalized was particularly clever...

That really "sold it"...

Oh for pity's sake, I work with elders with dementia, I'm certainly well aware of the common health risks.

Have you no sense of humor? If I was a 90-something former President with no respect for the guy about to take office, I'd be inclined to get a doctor's note to avoid the ceremonies. I'm not saying he did, just acknowledging that he could've if he'd wanted to.

Geez, jump on me but no comment about RT's comment re: Bush kicking the bucket?! You really do suck as PBPOTY! :nana

In common with many celebs invited to the Inauguration, I too have decided to boycott the entire thing.

I recommend a thoughtful read of "Long Walk to Freedom" and wonder why on earth I have only reached this book in the past few weeks. Done now and back to the library for more thoughtful stuff.

That's why I can't go. Busy
