unfortunately the narco-traffickers have them by the short-hairs.
picture this scenario and see if you see a solution.
say that you are a Mexican judge (or policeman or politician)
now the govt has a drug-lord or one of his compatriots in custody.
you get a visit from a fellow and he says that he is willing to pay you 1 million dollars to dismiss the case or to look the other way while the guy escapes or something like that.
you say no, you are an honest judge.
he says..., ok, I admire that, senor.....but here are your choices...
you can take this bribe or not, but if you don t I m going to kill your family one at a time until you agree, and then you will be killed last...
your daughter has dance lessons on tues, no?
and your wife gets her hair done at Maria s on Wednesday, no?
your son is in college in mexico city I believe....
....and don t your madre and your sister live on Pino st?
and your uncles and cousins have that little shop up the street?
it s up to you your honor.
how do you fix that?
good men must die fighting back. it is the only way.
young men must stay and fight.
either that or surrender the country to darkness

While men (and I use the term loosely) like you stay in the background and make impassioned speeches about how other people need to make sacrifices or put themselves into harm's way, but are never to be found on the firing line themselves.
We had people like that during the Viet Nam era too; we called 'em "chicken-hawks". You know the type — perform their military service in a stateside National Guard unit, or avoid service altogether because of 'bone spurs'.

We started to walk along that path on November 8th 2016, but it is still not too late to turn back. We have not yet totally surrendered to the Dark Side. -"BB"-

nice speech.
mexico still has the same problem.
you can make this about me if you like, but the subject is mexico.
they are in a dire situation with no easy solutions.
perhaps a secure border would help them immensely.
it could be their anvil against which they could smash the cartels with their hammer.
just a thought.
feel free to continue with your bullshit .....

oh yeah.... I saw your big talk about coming to my house too.
I noticed that no one said a word about threats to our real lives, just as they were silent when bigsky said she wanted to come to my house and shoot people.
no one said a word of reproach or rebuke.
no one....

Don't you go putting your words into my mouth, you hateful, intolerant, sawed-off little peckerwood you. Here's what I said; deny it if you can.
Bicycle Bill wrote:Although it would be interesting to do one thing... I'd love to stop out at wesw's place on the DelMarVa peninsula and drag out everything in his house that does *NOT* have a "Proudly Made in the USA" label or sticker on it, pile it up in the front yard, and set a match to it. I'll betcha you'd be able to see the flames from space.
Note that I said it "would be interesting" to do this; not that I was going to do this or intending to incite others to do this.
It was my way of saying that you probably have as much "made in Mexico" (or some other sweat-shop country) shit as anybody else. Start with your computer, your cellphone, your home electronics (TV/stereo/whatever), and the clothes on your back. Probably even those two trucks under the maple tree you were talking about a week ago have parts and components that came in from other countries; maybe they were even assembled and shipped in from Canada or Mexico themselves.
Quite frankly, it would have to be an extremely cold day in Hell for me to come to your particular little corner of the country and do something like this, or even send someone to do it for me.... because quite frankly, little man, you just ain't worth that much effort. -"BB"-

It's always the old to lead us to the war
It's always the young to fall
Now look at all we've won with the saber and the gun

ray, what other solution does mexico have?
the cartels will not give up peacefully.
should mexico tolerate their oppression?
idk.
seems that they should fight to me.

legalizing marijuana in both countries would be a good start, I think.
I don t think that legalizing cocaine or heroin is a good idea.
perhaps coca leaves and small patches of poppy for personal use, but coke and heroin are just too destructive to people and to society ,I think, to legalize them.
idk, but I don t think that we should tolerate the cartels and their violence and drug trade.

As long as we're quoting Phil Ochs...
...they'll coach you in the classroom that it cannot happen here But it HAS happened here...
The dogs are chasing chicken bones across the lawn
If that was an election, I'm a Viet Cong
So I pledge allegiance against the flag
And the flaw for which it stands
Pledge allegiance to the land
Soldiers have their sorrow
The wretched have their rage
Pray for the aged
It's the dawn of another age
Of another age
Of another age
Of another age
Of another age
