Surprise! Trump hands the mic to supporter at Florida rally

(CNN)In what appeared to be an improvised moment, President Donald Trump invited one of his supporters to join him on stage and take the microphone during a rally in Melbourne, Florida, on Saturday night.

As the man climbed up, the President addressed security concerns by saying to the crowd, and perhaps to Secret Service agents, "I'm not worried about him. I'm only worried he's going to give me a kiss. I'm not worried about anything else."

Gene Huber, wearing a black Donald Trump T-shirt, hugged the President and spoke for a few moments.

"Mr. President, thank you so, sir. We the people, our movement is the reason why our president of the United States is standing here in front of us today," Huber said. "When President Trump during the election promised all these things that he was going to do for us, I knew he was going to do this for us."

"A star is born," Trump said as Huber returned to the crowd. "I wouldn't say that the Secret Service was thrilled with that, but we know our people, right? We know our people. Great guy. And so many others."

Later, Huber was interviewed by CNN's Pamela Brown and said he'd been waiting since 4 a.m. ET to get into the rally. He believed Trump chose him to climb on stage after watching his interviews with TV reporters before the rally.[Ahh, not quite so "improvised" then...]

Huber said Trump inspires him so that he keeps a six-foot cardboard cutout of the President in his house.

"I salute that every single day and I pray and I tell him, 'Mr. President, I pray for your safety today,' " Huber said. "And I'm not lying,I do that every single day to the president, but he's cardboard."

He posted a photo of the cutout on Twitter, saying: "The Best Vistor I could ever have! President Trump came to Florida to see me! Wow, never will forget this! @realDonaldTrump @thebestcloser"

As the interview with Brown wrapped up, Huber asked, "And can I just say one quick thing?"
"Quickly," Brown replied.

"I appreciate the interview," Huber said. "Let's just be a little, little nicer to our president. Thank you so much."

Among other things, he praises Trump for the "sacrifice" he made for America by being willing to become President Of The United States, and he goes on about how one of the things he most likes about Trump is the way he "always tells the truth"...

I find it interesting that there are at least two crosses visible in that picture of the guy and his plastic Jesus cardboard POTUS, and by his own admission this guy says that "I salute that (the cardboard standee of Trump) every single day and I pray and I tell him, 'Mr. President, I pray for your safety today.'  And I'm not lying,I do that every single day to the president, but he's cardboard."

Yet if you look into the Bible, regardless of the version — King James, Revised Standard, New International, whatever — you will find something like this in the book of Exodus (Chapter 20, if you're following along at home):

  3  You shall have no other gods before Me."

  (the above, btw, is from Andrew Schlafly's 'Conservative Bible Project', "a project utilizing the 'best of the public' to render God's word into modern English without archaic language and liberal translation distortions."   In other words, a Bible tailored specifically to Republicans, Trump supporters, Tea-Baggers, and other rad-cons like wesw.)

Praying to a cardboard replica of someone who quite obviously is *NOT* God?  This guy's going to hell.
And that picture on the what-not shelf on the guy's right does look like the pic that wesw uses as his avatar, doesn't it?

The guy may be several bananas short of a bunch, but I'd hope he can read and comprehend English with more skill than is displayed by some in this thread.

Nowhere does he say that he prays TO the image of Donald Trump. Read it.

He salutes it (loon). He prays. And then he TELLS cardboard Trump that he HAS prayed for his safety. And he goes through this every day. (weirdo)

Clearly he does NOT pray TO D. Trump FOR that. Equally obviously, if he prayed for safety TO Trump, believing him a deity,, Trump would already know it and he couldn't need to TELL him.

We may think he's somewhat deranged but it is ridiculous to accuse him of praying to D. Trump. He doesn't. For whatever reason, he prays to God for the President's safety. There were many, many people (great people) who prayed for every President's safety over the past 47 years since our great, and it is great, nation was founded.

It is flirting with idolatry but it falls short. I would say, On the scale of idolatry from Mammon to Muslim it falls just shy of the Roman Catholic Church.

I too was raised Catholic (and still practice it) and it was explained to me that the statues, pictures, and other icons are just someone to focus your attention rather than letting your mind wander; and that you weren't actually praying to the saints or even to the BVM, you were asked them or her to put in a good word for you with the Big Guy upstairs (or as the nuns put it, "intercede on your behalf, even though your troubles and problems were nothing more than what you deserved").

A reference? Kind of like those people praying at the beginning of It's a Wonderful Life" ("God, George never asked for anything for himself...)?

Oh it's idolatry all right. To ask any dead human to perform miracles and feats for us is exactly that.

Memorare ( the same prayer is offered to Anna, Mary's mum i.e. Jesus' grandma. Maybe to his great grandma too, or rather both of them on Mary's side)

This one's even better. Mary is the savior of the world. We "entrust" ourselves to her. Protect us and save us. Note that it's not the Holy Spirit who enables us to understand the precepts of Jesus and live by them - it's Mary. Contrary to the Bible but what does that matter?
