What is most worrisome about Trump is Trump himself. He is a man so unpredictable, so reckless, so petulant, so full of blind self-regard, so untethered to reality that it is impossible to know where his presidency will lead or how much damage he will do to our nation.

His obsession with his own fame, wealth and success, his determination to vanquish enemies real and imagined, his craving for adulation — these traits were, of course, at the very heart of his scorched-earth outsider campaign; indeed, some of them helped get him elected. But in a real presidency in which he wields unimaginable power, they are nothing short of disastrous.
That pretty well says it...
This nation survived Andrew Jackson and Richard Nixon. It survived slavery. It survived devastating wars. Most likely, it will survive again.
Gee, that's what I call "guarded optimism"... :?

We knew all this six months ago. Even longer. HRC was saying it over the summer. Where was the LA Times then?

The press played up Trump. Sucked off Trump. That they are finally coming to grips with his awfulness is far too little and way way too late.

This would never have happened had Biden run. Around "the neighborhood" (the La Michoacana Ice Cream Shop in Kennett Square) it sounds like he has become quite apologetic.

HRC for Mayor. Rumor has it she's well liked in NYC.

BIDEN/Warren... 2020.

Biden is past his sell/best if used by date. A Biden/Warren ticket, unless there is relentless grass roots efforts in all those red states beginning long before 2018, will just be another Eastern Elites punching bag.

Now this is very scary to me: " Most likely, it will survive again." This from one of those sources that told us repeatedly that 'most likely' Trump will never get nominated, never get elected.

Editorial: Hillary Clinton would make a sober, smart and pragmatic president. Donald Trump would be a catastrophe.

Yes, the editorial boards overwhelmingly rejected Trump. While the news/politics sections were still repeating his lies, giving him loads of free press, and failing to report on him with any measure of criticality.

They don't get a pass on this. As a collective industry, journalism did a piss poor job reporting on the Trumpanzee and the election, and most of them stil don't ask the right/necessary followup questions or press for real answers. Slowly, they are finding their backbones, but to pretend they didn't have a big hand in creating the Trumpanzee is disingenuous and false.

I'm not pretending that. I think many in the press have also acknowledged that truth as well.

They should also have given fair and equal coverage to the other populist candidate, who might then very well have won both the candidacy AND the WH.

Water under the bridge . . .

And made boat loads of money off of Trump. Hence, we have Trump.

Part IV: Trump's War on Journalism

ETA: One of the comments on today's installment: "If the LAT does not call for impeachment at the end of this special series of editorials then, it will be for naught."
